Absolutely gobsmacked the entire PDF is not text copy-able.

Practically useless for virtual play without direct transcribing

If you're doing a campaign in hell, this is the book to get. Incredible work around not just backstories but how those backstories intertwine as well as story prompts. Can't say it enough, incredible work.

I find the book to be incredibly interesting, although I was wondering where empress Viligor came from. Since the author refers to her as a Baatorian I presume it’s a 2e or a 3/3.5e figure, but I’ve been unable to find her in any such material.

From what I've seen of the lore in this book, it looks like a lot of it, particularly the hierarchy, conflicts with official content published for 5e by WotC. There's a lot of content but it often reads like the author isn't up to date.

In fairness to the author, there was no significant, official 5e published infernal material at the time this content was produced. Descent into Avernus, the first major in-depth look (by WotC) into that infernal hierarchy was published near-2½ years following this book. I believe this work stands on its own very much as it did when first published: a solid resource for all things devilish for your 5e campaign.

Question. Why is Asmodeous only a cr 26? If he is considered a deity then that should put him at cr 30 right with tiamat.

This is marvelous work. The only gripe I have with this book, is that far more devils recieve lore, but not stats. Is there going to be an expansion for the book?

Hey Sean, I read the discussion below about a Fantasy Grounds conversion. Is this still something that is being considered? If so, reach out to me on twitter (@Grimtainment), and we might be able to work together to have this conversion done. I convert PDFs into Fantasy Grounds regularly, so feel free to touch base and we can discuss any questions you might have.

Hi Jonathan,

Sean and I have chatted about converting this. When we originally received it, there was an issue pulling the PDF's raw text from the statblocks, meaning everything needs to be typed in manually for the monster stats. I'll chat with the Grim Press team about having this converted as it represents a ton of work!

It should be noted as well that Gargoth is later known as Gargauth and there is a great deal more information about him detailed in Powers & Pantheons as well as Cloak & Dagger among other sources. There is extensive discussion about him on the Candlekeep forums as well.

I like this immensely! I am a fan of devils and this was needed. My only gripe with this superb supplement is that it gives lore for more monsters than it gives stat for. Can we expect sequel or appendix?

This product is insanely useful for my campaign, I love it! Any word on the guide to demons? I have a hard time compiling lore and info on much of the abyss regarding specific floors and would buy that in a heartbeat.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
