The Tortured Past Sorcerer

The broken man looks up towards his captors, his arms and legs bound to the table and his stomach and chest covered in the scars of torture. A long haired Dark Elf slowly steps towards the table, holding a red hot branding iron at waist level. The broken man's eyes widen as he sees the flaming steel coming towards his flesh, he clenches his teeth and braces for the pain.

Minutes pass, his body even further scarred and defaced with the branding of some lowly Drow house. The pain has begun subsiding and slowly anger and absolute fury takes its place. The broken man's eyes dart up from the branding iron and meet the gaze of the Dark Elf, much to the displeasure of the Drow man. He screams at him in some unknown and foul sounding tongue, before plunging the branding iron down towards the man's neck.

The branding iron connects with the soft skin of the neck and immediately the smell of singeing flesh fills the man's nostrils. He screams out in agony, intent on maintaining eye contact with the Drow. Suddenly, a huge blast of forceful energy pushes out from the mans body as he convulses off of the table for a brief moment. His captors flying across the room and his shackles lay in ruin.

He quickly sits up, inspecting his wrists where the shackles had come free but notices something much more sinister. Every branding mark is glowing, glowing a bright vibrant blue, unlike anything he'd ever seen before. He looks towards the Dark Elf man, who is now just getting to his feet, he points his hand towards the Drow and a bolt of electrical energy discharges from his finger and strikes his captor square in the chest.

It's time to embrace the pain and delve deeper into the darkness with a new sorcerous origin for D&D 5e, the Tortured Past sorcerer.

A sorcerer with the Tortured Past origin discovered their innate arcane ability in a time of immense pain or grief. Their untapped arcane potential erupting forth just as their emotions did. They learn to slowly control their power but still find their magic flourishes in times of stress or pain.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
