Yawning Portal Campaign Guide: Volume 1

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Hammer, blade and three-pronged spear.

Weapons worthy of the greatest heroes.

Linked by fate through the ages .

Bane of Giantkind, protector of the Dankir.

Razor of the night, stealer of souls.

Pride of the Home Sought After, evangelist of the sea.

And so starts a heroic quest...

Tales from the Yawning Portal collects the greatest hits from the history of Dungeons and Dragons. The Yawning Portal Campaign guides contains a backstory, hooks and encounters to provide links and context to connect these adventures into an epically deadly and epically fun campaign.

Volume One contains the campaign hook and seven encounters for the Sunless Citadel and Forge of Fury. It also contains Safehouse, an original adventure that takes characters into a Cult of the Dragon safehouse.

The hooks and encounters in this volume can be used as part of a campaign, with individual adventures from Tales from the Yawning Portal, or as encounters in a treasure hunting campaign of your own design.

Note 09/12/17: This product was updated based on the reviews.  The first encounter was switched to adolescent orcs instead of kobolds so that it does not conflict with the Sunless Citadel plot!

Eric, Love the work, although a minor question. The Bandits! encounter on pp. 10-11 is a little confusing. I'm struggling to follow the text and the accompanying map. Looks like there's a few discrepancies with the monsters' numbering on the map versus the text. Any way to get some of that clarified?

Eric,

I just purchased the Volume 1-3 bundle. I am a new DM and will be running this as my first campaign. Would you recommend a world map for this campaign?

Thanks! Let me know what you think...

I think this map set of the "North" would be perfect for the campaign. I think it has everything except for Chult.

Just a quick update. Volume 2 is about 1/2 way done. It will continue the story arc introduced in Volume 1 and include encounters and connections for Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan, White Plume Mountain, and Dead in Thay. It also will include the "Cabinet of Curiosities" adventure as a lead in to Dead in Thay.

Any timeline on volume 3? Im running the yawning portal modules for my first campaign and your guide has been quite useful for linking everything together cleanly. Im confident I could write my own ending if I had to, but id like to see what you have in store for it

I'm hoping for the end of June. Let me know if you need it earlier and I can send you my notes.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
