To the End of Time - an Epic One-Shot

ADD TO WISHLIST >

An Epic Adventure

They're some of the greatest heroes the world has ever seen, but when they are plucked from their own time and tasked with saving the world - and possibly much more besides - one last time, will they be up to the challenge?

Taking D&D to the Limit

Epic-level D&D is something that every gamer should get to play around with at least once. However, this is something that most groups struggle to achieve.

Most committed players have some sort of idealized character hanging round in the back of their head, designed to take advantage of all the abilities on offer when you get 20 levels under your belt, but they rarely get to use them.

Which is where To the End of Time comes in.

What is This Adventure?

This one-shot is designed to give players a taste of epic level adventuring without the need for two years of campaigning first. It can be completed in a single long session, or two or three shorter ones and should be relatively straightforward to run.

The players get to pick from pre-generated epic-level heroes (downloadable free from winghornpress.com) or create their own, complete with backstories of valor and adventure.

At the very moment of their death, these titanic heroes are plucked from their own time by a powerful angel and tasked with saving the world - and possibly much more besides - one last time.

Over the course of their adventure the party will encounter all manner of powerful creatures far beyond the reach of regular adventurers, and face tasks that would leave even stout-hearted heroes dumbstruck.

So sit down and grab some dice… it’s going to be a long night.

The game I normally DM was down a player so downloaded this as a one shot for one of the players to run for the session, we used the pre-gen's and it was fun to run an overpowered character, it is written ok, far better than some, a few errors here and there but I am completely happy with this purchase. Would happily recommend for a quick one shot.

BBEG is basically impossible to do anything against unless you have a high-charisma party. We didn't. I just spent the majority of the fight just sitting there, unable to do anything, because the save against confusion was impossible to pass. The DM decided not to use that legendary action on anyone else, because nobody else in the party could pass either. Pretty much an unwinnable fight unless you know ahead of time how the BBEG works and plan ahead. I guess if you really want a level 20 tpk, here's your module.

No spoilers.

Noticed that the BBEG's stat block may have an error. One of their abilities gives them an additional 8d8 psychic damage on their melee attacks on a hit (included in the attack), but then their greatsword attack is listed as an additional 6d8 psychic damage per hit. Am I reading this incorrectly or is there an error?

Additionally, are the grid sizes for the maps disclosed in the module? I was not able to find them. Thank you.

Haven't played it yet, but here are the changes I'm making for a party of 4 (2 wizards, 1 circle of dreams druid, and one fighter battlemaster).

Chronomancy is highly regulated not forbidden. Above level 3, bits of arcane knowledge are missing/redacted across the multiverse. Individuals or groups that research it and actually make progress tend to either disappear or forget completely what they were working on. In reality, if these higher levels are cast, 2-3 algoriths (Tome of Beasts) show up with an extra ability Erase cast at 8th level (1/day). They will in a pair attempt to wall of force the offending party and modify memory/erase knowledge of the time spell, etc. I will have my wizards able to learn high level chronomancy by finding the missing knowledge and spending a short rest transcribing because it is only a part of the spell missing not the whole thing. I plan to have Klath join them as a guide to the Black Tower and get erased right in front of them.

Once entering the far...See more

Hey, I love the idea of using the Inligulae, I’m running this adventure soon and was wondering if you had any tips for adding it in/any issues you ran into from adding it?

We actually just finished it on Tuesday night. After the Divine Horror died, I let them have about 10 minutes until the Time Eater arrived. Time was frozen outside the portal back to the material plane and they spent some time exploring this via flock of familiars and tying a rope around someone's waist then walking through. I would recommend playing with a virtual tabletop to keep track of the marks as invisible tokens or a complete map on your side of the DM screen. It gets pretty chaotic especially with PC summons. My party ended up smashing one of the short rest hourglasses during the battle, but the Time Eater is specifically immune to time magic so it continued to move around outside utilizing past ripper attacks and laying down future breaker traps (technically 600 turns, but I just had it wait on them for a bit). Use the time loop feature as soon as they get an idea of the marks. Have a blurb written out for each character for the Sever Timeline effect. Have the players roll the d4 and d100 for the acausal...See more

I'm planning to run this adventure and when inputting the stats for the Elder Being into Foundry I realised that it's Challenge Rating should at least be 21 not 20, because the Proficiency Bonus for CR 20 is only +6 and the Attacks and Saving Throws assume a Proficiency bonus of +7.

How hard would this be to scale back to a level 16 or 17 adventure for a group of 4 or 5?

Ran this for my players yesterday and it was an absolute blast. I have been DMing for about two years and never for a lvl 20 party. Let me tell you this adventure makes it as easy as it possibly can be to run a level 20 one-shot. Of course, it might totally go off the rails either way because your players pretty much have acsess to world-ending spells, but that's just what being lvl 20 is like. Yhe adventure brings good ideas, cool fights, and opportunities for interesting role play. I would definitely recommend buying this if you're looking for a lvl20 one-shot.

Ran this over the weekend with 3 players who were crazy-geared. Every fight was a joke (not a bad thing) until the final boss. And it was 8 points away from being a joke as well. (The fighter took all 8 attacks and had 3-4 crits, Tempani was left with 8 HP after the fighter's turn.)

Here's where it went to hell for my party. I brought out the divine horror and almost immediately used it's Dread Gaze to confuse the fighter. Eventually, I confused the monk. Lastly, confused the bard.

All three were confused. And I only used Mind Rend each round, which they almost always failed the save, so exhaustion levels kept piling up.

Here's my question: Did I run this correctly? I mean, is it possible to have my ENTIRE party confused at the same time. Since I wasn't "casting" Confusion, I never gave the monster "Concentrating", which means I can Confuse someone else. Or, was it intended that using Dread Gaze would immediately put me in the concentrating...See more

I ran this this weekend as well for a group of five players. I added battles along the way to try and drain resources but they got to tempani without any issue. Then because of the the super high charisma saves and exhaustion stacks I quickly had them on the ropes. I had an archdruid that shape changed to an elemental that is immune to exhaustion and acted as a meat shield (bonus action shape change to top off hp every turn) and a wizard that kept the dps PCs going. I even created a third round for tempani to really create problems for them. I did the same thing you did and everyone had an awesome time. They did beat tempani and added flair for a home brew campaign in the future.

I'm not clear on how one of the divine horror's random rolls works. How does the magnetism work? Would every character within 30 feet of the target make a strength save and then on fail, I roll the attacks on the target?

Yes that’s exactly what I did with the magnetism. It says the characters act as singly objects. If you want to add weapon racks or keep track of the chains as objects that can fly around you can do that to make PCs spread out

Also for the liquefying ground I allowed my ranger to use his ethereal step to escape.

I’m preparing to run this for a group in a few weeks and I noticed two things are off. One - it mentions that it comes with premise characters, but this wasn’t included in my download and two - at the end when you fight Tempani it mentions she will try to use the Elder Being’s “Corrupting Aura” and “Eye of the Void” abilities but neither are in the stat block. In fact, the elder being and divine horror stat blocks are almost identical. Is this correct?

I'm a bit late here, but for anyone wondering in the future, I'm assuming the names of the attacks were changed, and the author forgot to rewrite the text to match it. Corrupting Aura is probably Warping Aura, and Eye of the Void is probably Dread Gaze.

But yeah, it's a bit unfortunate that the stat blocks are mostly the same.

Should the players start with any magical gear? Will they be ok if they dont have anything it basic items?

Players will struggle without magical gear. Level 20 characters are strong, but magical gear really makes them good. I would suggest probably a VR, R, and U for each player. Maybe even a Legendary, VR, and R instead if your feeling generous.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
