There are ten XML files for Fantasy Grounds, each inspired by and corresponding to the levels 1-10 from the pregenerated characters that can be found here:

https://www.dmsguild.com/browse/pub/44/Wizards-of-the-Coast?filters=0_0_0_0_45462_0

To use these characters, import them using the import characters function in either the PC window in a campaign or in the manage character window from the main menu.

In the case of spell casters, as much as possible I have properly set the damage dice that goes with their spells if there is a change at higher levels. I also have automated abilities where possible.

This product does not contain the personality flavor text or any artwork found from the base character.  Any personality text is as found in the Player's Handbook, not as customized in the example character.   Significant work was done for each character to automate what could be automated and I have included notes on using abilities that cannot be automated in this document and, where applicable, in the XML file.  If you wish to use the story associated with the base characters, you will have to add it yourself.

The characters have been created using the Complete Core Pack as many of the choices are not in the SRD. You should be able to use them with just the specific character pack as well. I used the SRD for magic items, so there should not be need for paid DLC for those.

If you see any errors in the characters, please note them in the comments and I will try and correct and reload the characters.

I have asked for a “pay what you want” just as a “tip” for the time to do generate and automate the characters.

Half-Orc Paladin Play notes

The original character has a mastiff as a pet starting level 2 and a brown bear as a mount starting level 5.  The actual NPC for these are not included in these files and are available in the SRD ruleset. These creatures are not extensions of the character, make sure you understand the rules for mounts and animals as presented in the rule books. As a general rule, attacks by them, at least initial attacks, will require some form of animal handling roll and use an action from the Paladin. Otherwise up to you and your DM. The DM can share NPC with players inside Fantasy Grounds. If you have questions on how, search the 5e forums at www.fantasygrounds.com.

Divine Smite – Drop on the Paladin just before damage is rolled.  Yes, you do this after you know that you have rolled a critical hit.

Divine Health – the effect is reminder text only, the actual ability is not automated.

Savage Attacks – this is coded into the weapon section via the magnifying glass in the section title bar. Look at the right side after it is opened.

Great Weapon fighting style – each two-handed weapon has reroll 2 added into properties in the action tab. If you add or replace weapons in the future, be sure to add this as well.

Heavy Armor Feat – turn the effect on while wearing heavy armor.

Lay on Hands – divided into 5 hp chuncks and number of uses = maximum / 5.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
