This product requires the original X1 Isle of Dread adventure module to use. Copies of original classic modules are available at dmsguild.com

The Isle of Dread is an adventure for the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game. The adventure, module code X1, was originally published in 1981. Written by David "Zeb" Cook and Tom Moldvay, it is among the most widely circulated of all Dungeons & Dragons adventures due to its inclusion as part of the D&D Expert Set. In the adventure, the player characters search for a lost treasure, journey to the prehistoric Isle of Dread, and there meet new nonhuman races.

I'm back and I have a few more questions. (I appreciate you replying so quickly!) To start you said that you purposely lowers the CR(xp given) by a monster to make it feel like 1e and to make the players go and find gold since in as you know in 1e you gain xp by getting gold. I understand your reasons but in 5e you don't gain xp by gold so then lowering gained xp doesn't work so well. As well as a DM who has only DMed 5e I don't even know how much xp to give to my players for finding money and riches. To continue you know that even by giving less xp for killing monsters there still pretty high CR (Hydra, all the dragons even the giants could get annoying) so if you just took the monster and put the 5e stats on it it could make it stronger than what it used to be in 1e. Finally this is one of the "traps" when crossing the roped bridge to get to the central plateau there's a 10% chance that the pterodactyls knock down a player while crossing. I do not belive that you gave a DC for that encounter. Please...See more

This is a slightly late reply, and obviously, I'm not the writer, however, I would generally agree that just setting a CR lower isn't really helpful to a DM who isn't familiar with this type of adventure, because CR isn't just there for experience points, it's there to give a rough idea of whether it will wipe out the party or not. You can simply declare experience points from combat are cut to 1/5th normal, and then award outsized XP for achievements, which can include acquiring gold.

That said, I had a conversation with some of my players, all of whom are from 3rd or 5th ed, and when trying to describe why this was the case, I mentioned Bill Webb's rules where you only gain experience for SPENDING the gold on something appropriate to your character. These were often very stereotype-y, like clerics donating the gold, wizards performing magical research, or dwarves spending it on ale and merriment, but you could absolutely tailor experience point gains to actions (including, but not limited to...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
