This tool sounds really handy and I hope to support it in the future. Unfortunately, I am receiving the error "Failed to execute script NPCv2" when I launch the exe. I am using Windows 7 as well.

Thanks for providing error information. I'll play around with it and see what could be causing that problem for you--I have some suspicions, so I'll check things out on a different machine and get back to you very soon. So sorry for you to have had this experience.

Ditto. And I downloaded the updated version on Dec 28th. I've deleted it and tried downloading it again. Same error message.

Sorry, I've just checked on three different installations of Windows 7 on totally different machines, and the fresh download is working fine on Windows 7. I wish there was something I could do to help, but I'm not sure what other options I have.

Joey, I've just checked on three different Windows 7 installations on three separate machines, and it's working just fine. Sorry, but I have no idea what's going on with your case.

How do you use it? It won't work on Windows 7

This application was developed on Windows 7, and functions perfectly on both my installation of Windows 7 and my installation of Windows 10. This appears to be an issue that is not related to the application.

This is really cool, but any way you can add stat blocks for the NPCs, in addition to the story bits?

Right now it seems a bit barebones, and really vague.

Also is this made in Java? It's really cool as a basic first generator. Dropped five bucks on it in the hope that it might be updated if you find the time c:

First off, Torbjørn, thank you very much for your support! I really appreciate the faith you have in future development.

As for the app, the vagueness of the characters is intentional. My intent was to make them as flexible as possible for DM use in whatever scenario your players find themselves. That said, I think you've hit on an important idea with stat blocks. I'll be looking into ways to improve and implement that functionality--and I've written this program in Python, by the way, but I may look into Java as an option in the future.

I'm happy to say that we have started down the road of stat blocks! It's just a few raw numbers right now, but it's more than it used to be! Future updates with more interesting statistics may happen as I discover how to implement them.

This is pretty cool, but how do you enter more than one custom race?

Sorry, but what that field does in the code is change one variable--the function is called multiple times with that variable changed. If you want your single custom race plus a random assortment of Volo's races, there's a button for that. Unfortunately, I do not have the feature you're describing planned.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
