"Giantslayer" and "The Dawn Chaser" are two of my favorite adventures in this collection. The narratives and the characters (NPCs) are more than worth the price. M.T. Black does great work!

Hi, I ran Mad Mage in 3 hours at my FLGS FreeRPG day yesterday. I did this by stripping out some fights. This adventure provides a nice level of high fantasy. The party let the Dragon fry up the rest of the goblins!

Hi M.T. I have a set of level 1 characters and will be starting these adventures. Is there a recommended order to these adventures? I'm not sure which one to do first, second, third, etc.

Also, is there hooks for an over-arching campaign between the adventures? Figured I'd see.

Hi Brett, these are a bunch of standalone adventures rather than a campaign. You can pick and choose according to the level your PCs are at.

One good adventure path that will take your characters up to level 7 is TOTMM, DTD, IIM, MVFS, LSOH, ETTLP

Have you considered doing an adventure for a jungle environment? Maybe involving some Yuan-ti action? I will be running isle of Dread for my 5e players and would love some jungle/ lost world themed adventures.

Yes, was thinking about something like that, though it would be a while off. With the announcement of Stream of Annhiliation, which will be very "Isle of Dread" and set in a jungle, there may not be much demand for that.

I just purchased this an it is great! How can I get a copy of the maps without grids for Roll20?

Glad you like them, Albert! I don't have gridless maps for many of my adventures. But which ones were you planning on playing next? I'll see if I can find something for you.

How about gridless maps for Expedition to the Lost Peaks and Little Shrine of Horrors?

I just checked my files, and unfortunately I don't have gridless versions of either map. The tool I used to prepare them uses a gridded system to do the drawing, so it's "baked in".

Sorry!

I have a question regarding these titles. I play using a VTT (Virtual Table Top), so maps are pretty important. I am trying to gauge the amount of effort to use these in a VTT, can you provide an example of the maps included?
Customer avatar
M.T. B April 08, 2017 8:28 pm UTC
CREATOR
Hi Anon, I'm not sure how I can easily share some of the maps with you. I can tell you that a number of people run my adventures over VTT

Would just need to provide high-res pictures of the maps. Generally always a good idea to include a "PC map" version without numbers and an annotated DM's version with the numbers.

I'm looking to release a Fantasy Grounds mod for one of my adventures soon. If it goes ok, I'll probably do most of them.

Even though I already owned many of these titles, I went ahead and purchased this collection anyway to throw M.T. Black a little more support. I'm a fairly new DM and honestly his adventures have helped me become such a better DM and have a far better understanding of how to design compelling encounters.

Apparently this went up in price by 20% overnight while it was in my basket! Any reason for the price increase?

The adventures I already have are great (Triboar Trilogy) but I can probably only use four of the other 2016 adventures, and at the new price it would be quite a bit cheaper to buy them individually (although they are still good value and I'm a bit of a completist so I'm still pretty tempted). I don't suppose you can somehow offer a discount to people who already bought some of the adventures in the set? :D

I fear I may have become an M.T. Black fanboy. Whenever anyone in the community asks for a recommendation of adventures to introduce new players to the game, I instantly skip past the obvious Lost Mines... and point them straight at Black's work. The adventures collected here are fantastic one shots, pieces to build a larger adventure, or great sprinklings to throw into your world for those weeks when the writers block kicks in and you can't think of a story to run. Absolutely perfect for new and seasoned players.

If you are looking to introduce a new player to the world of D&D, then the adventure here called "Tower of the Mad Mage" is perfect for you. It takes around 5 hours or so to play, is perfectly crafted to allow RP, has a nice variety of monsters and creatures, and is guaranteed to have you and your players rolling in laughter.

The current price on this collection makes it a no brainer to purchase, and you are getting a bargain here.

Was enticed by the appetizing price point, took a leap of faith and was not disappointed! Great, clear, print-friendly layouts, very usable maps, pleasant sprinkling of B&W art among the text, varied and catchy locations and scenarios. Covers a nice array of PC levels as well!

With Wizards pushing big campaign books only, this is the perfect product if you want a nice collection of standalone delves and adventures to use in your games! Two thumbs up, keep up the great work, Mr. Black!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
