Deep in the Marsh of Chelimber lie the ruins of a great wizard’s tower. SEER has received intelligence, which she imparts via her emissary Hsing, that deep beneath the marsh in the remains of an old tower is knowledge of older magics.

This could be just what Parnast needs to resist the onslaught of Bad Fruul and his armies!

1/5 I am so glad I didn't have to pay for this. I ran it at a Con, so I hope people weren't turned off DND AL after this mess. In the 70+ Expeditions I've DMed this is the worst by far. Confusing map, railroaded traps, secret doors which must be found to advance the plot, an entire floor which can be bypassed (not that there's anything of value there anyways).

I started DMing with the season 4 AL adventures. I found little inconsistencies and typos here & there, but had very little difficulty running the entire campaign. I expected the adventures for season 5 to have been better edited for consistency and spelling/grammar. Things weren't going as smoothly as I had hoped, but until I ran this one I was still able to cobble together descent games.

I have to say that after reading all of the errata I have seen published here on DMs Guild and elsewhere, I still found myself adrift as the DM of this adventure. It isn't even entirely the mistakes that disappoint as the entire story line is weak and the encounters underwhelming. I hope that corrections for the other adventures keep up with feedback from those of us who have paid good money for these official AL adventures. Really - In other adventures when I had questions, the authors mostly responded personally with explanations and guidance. I don't understand why the authors of this one remain silent....See more

I get the impression this author either wasn't familiar with D&D 5e rules, or still had their prior edition head on.

Case in point, during the adventure you get elemental resistance 3 or 5 (for the appropriate Element). What does this mean? Resistance is just 1/2 damage, adding a number is meaningless. What is the appropriate element, "Water Resistance" doesn't achieve much as a game term. Using prior edition knowledge you could rule it as cold resistance, but I see no reference in 5e to those being related, and the water effects in the adventure that deal damage do Bludgeoning?

In addition whenever you ask for a 'information' check, it would be nice to give a box to let us know what we're telling players, instead of us having to quickly skim through and look for references.

Since a quick check against the author shows most of the adventures to be 4-5 star, I can only their head wasn't in the game for this one.

It seems to me that the DDAL05 modules are all tier 1, except for DDAL05-05. Can someone explain why?

They aren't all tier 1....they just released several tier 3 and another tier 2 and they have two tier 4 coming out. We are still mid season. They roll out between 2-4 new modules each month.

Tier 2: 5-4, 5-5, 5-11 (not released yet 5-13, 5-17)
Tier 3: 5-8, 5-9 (not released yet 5-14, 5-15)
Tier 4: (not released yet 5-18, 5-19)

A wizard in my group asked if the Downtime Activity (Faction Copyist) was a repeatable activity or a one-off. I have no idea, based on the text. How are other people ruling or interpreting this?

There doesn't seem to be an official change log, but here's what I've found so far when comparing the two PDF files side by side (I may have missed some):

1. The rooms are now labeled.
2. Page 18, bottom left column, under "The Trap": Effect has included, in parentheses, "the door to the Summoning Chambers, above".
3. Minimum and maximum XP award reduced from 900 and 1,200, respectively, to 450 and 600, respectively.
4. The Downtime Activity section header is now on Page 21 instead of Page 20.
5. The formatting for Faction Copyist header has been changed.
6. DM Rewards reduced from 400 gp to 75 gp.
7. The Magmin stat block has been moved from Page 22 to Page 23.
8. The Wight stat block has been moved from Page 23 to Page 24.
9. Player Handout 1. The Puzzle has been moved from Page 24 to the page between Page 27 and Page 29. The page itself is not numbered (!).
10. Page 29 is now Player Handout 2. Downtime Activity, and is a...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
