Now available in spanish! Thank you Andrés Gajardo!

Helpful and fun for beginners, this christmas themed adventure was created for new dms and new players.

With an easy to follow story and advice at the turn of every page this adventure meant for 2 to 5 level 1 characters provides what you need when you need it.

It can seem daunting to begin playing on the other side of the DM screen but this document was made to facilitate that. This adventure from cover to gametime has an expected prep time of 1-2 hours and the information you need to help new players get their first character sheet.

I ran this as a holiday one shot and it was fun.
Now I'm wondering, has anyone launched any other one shots or campaigns based off of this adventure or town?

It was a fun Christmasy one-shot. My players decided to set a (successful) trap for Mark in the town square before they headed up the mountain, so I had to improv a bit (I decided Santa had been kidnapped, so he was the one they found in the cellar instead of Mark). One of my players also kept trying to pray to Santa for guidance, so I let them do a DC15 religion check to see if Santa heard them, then Santa gave them advantage on their next ability check if they succeeded, or gave them a hint. The maps were easy to upload to D&D Beyond's new map feature.

I got this module to run my first campaign on the 20th. Really looking forward to it. Took the liberty of making maps using DungeonDraft. So I now have maps for upper floor of the Inn, main floor, Snowy Pass, Mark's House (main, basement and back room).

Thanks for giving me the push to do this.

I see this module is also available in Spanish. I could also translate it into German if you'd like me to. Just tell me where I can contact you.

I would but i'm not interested in funding and organizing a second translation at the moment. Currently I'm working on Exploration rules that will be titled "The Hexpedition"

Great module, ran it for a one-shot, for two fairly new players and one new player. They all enjoyed it, which is the main thing!

A few criticisms are that it does seem a bit hard for first-level new players. There were 3 players and they were fighting one Frost elemental, which means they actually had an easier time of it than if there had been four of them vs2 elementals, yet the elemental took down two of them in that fight. Also with the the constant fights with very little opportunity to rest between them, due to the dangers of resting (which I really like) I'm pretty sure my party would have wiped if I had played the Mark resting rules, however I didn't actually see them until I scroll down below his boss battle. I think that a better placement for those resting rules would be be above the Mark boss battle, but as I said it's perhaps a good thing that I didn't see them because it really does seem quite hard. I actually allowed my players to level up after beating the elemental because of how...See more

Thanks for the comments, sounds like you did a good job GMing!

For future reference, the areas where I think it makes sense for the players to take a long rest are after the first battle while still in town and if they can think of a good place to rest nearby marks house. I think taking a short rest at any point during the adventure is fine except maybe on the mountain where i might just give them a failure for it.

I think your player inspiring the others forward was legitimate.
If anyone finds themselves in a situation where they run out of skills they feel they can use then I'd suggest opening it up to non-proficient skills but maybe limit it to where the same player still cannot make the same skill check.

Yeah, the resting at mark's house rules do make more sense in the beginning rather than at the end now that you mention it.

All in all it sounds like you did a good job adapting to the challenges you particularly faced. Great job man! I wish you many...See more

I ran this today for a couple of kids at a game cafe/bar that I manage. Instead of defeating the final bad guy, they decided to join him. As a result, I'll be running a followup session where they will make new characters and have to defeat their previous, now evil, characters.

Ooh! That's exciting! I've yet to have that happen although I've had a group search for the place where Mark found the totem and battled him there.

Thank you all for your kind words!
I'm happy to say that I've decided on my next project for you guys.
A third level 1-shot with an open ending that can meld easily into a shipwrecked storyline.

Much like "Not a Creature Was Stirring" it is an adventure I have run before so alot of it will be polishing.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
