Guts, Gods & Glory

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Guts, Gods & Glory is a Dungeons & Dragons module using the 5e rules. It is designed to be played by three to six players of sixth to eighth level. It takes place in the Sword Coast setting of the Forgotten Realms, specifically the Elturgard region. Changes can be made to make it playable in a nondescript setting.

The player characters embark on a perilous journey that will test their resourcefulness and wits in a building arc of intensity. The environments are deeply detailed by the boxed text and should provide you and your characters a sturdy foundation for your creativity to launch from. There is a compelling story full of lamentations as well as laughs. The robust exposition sets up hours of challenging, combat-heavy “dungeon delving” throughout the quest. The aim is to maintain a versatile balance between “hack-and-slash” and “immersive storytelling” play styles, so that everyone can enjoy it in their own way. The numerous optional components allow you to scale the difficulty to your liking, and there is plenty of space for you to use your own creativity to enhance the content.

Ultimately, you and the players should have a wonderful time playing this module from beginning to end. Please enjoy, and take every liberty you want with the way it is played out. Open a discussion if you find a particularly fun augmentation that you’d like to share! Also, please leave a review to inform others about your impressions.

I sincerely appreciate your time,

Clark Harper

Is it possible to get more information on the story itself without spoilers? I'm definitely interested, but may want/need to modify things for my own setting/storyline and am curious how well it might be adapted.

Certainly! A central theme in this adventure is working for the greater good to help a mysterious, insular culture. It begins with a phase of intrigue in which the players put their diplomatic and investigative skills to the test. This is followed by a hack-and-slash dungeon crawl that's punctuated with cinematic story developments. This leads to a difficult conversation with a sentient tree. Next, the players surface in a labyrinthine environment they must navigate to find the final encounter. When this encounter is over, the players are rewarded most handsomely.
There are numerous references to Forgotten Realms lore. However, you can unplug them quite easily and plug in your own lore. You need:
A mysterious culture settled in a subterranean village.
Lore and flavor for said culture.
A very important tree.
Three gods: 1 x Good, 1x Evil, 1x Nature.

Hi. This looks interesting!

I see in the description that "it is designed to be played by three to six players of sixth to eighth level." Can I take that to mean that the players will level from 6 to 8, over the course of the module?

Hi, Ian!
Thanks for your interest! Actually, this refers to the level range the characters should start at in order to play this module. Characters should be 6th, 7th, or 8th level if they hope to survive this module.
That being said, you are the DM! :) Always feel free to scale the adversaries and encounters based on the level of the player characters.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
