A fun horror/suspense adventure for your party, easy to drop in to any campaign or play as a one-off.

Your adventurers find themselves drawn into a small hamlet in a secluded valley. Very quickly, it becomes obvious that this seemingly quiet town has a dark past, and the party has become caught up in it. They’ll have to unravel the mystery of what happened in Brenton, and once they do, defeat the ancient evil that has cursed it. If they don’t, they may be doomed to remain forever, a part of the story known as A Haunting in Brenton.

This is my first adventure I've published on the DMsGuild. Any feedback (praise and/or constructive criticism) would be greatly appreciated!

Special thanks to everyone who playtested various drafts of this: Taryn, Lydia, Jake, Vanessa, Alex, Brian, Robert, Alexy, Liam, Joe, and Tanya.

Looking through this at the moment I see a rather worrying fact that you provide only one solution to every situation. The house cannot be entered by any means other than the front door. Rooms shut and can't be breached by any means if a person teleports in. It seems to be shutting down most options by saying precisely what is allowed.

Thanks for the feedback, Jethro! It was definitely not my intention to railroad every single option available. The reason I have so many sections on ways that the PC's CAN'T get into the house is that I wanted to make it clear that this house was strange and difficult to access. Plus, I had fun plotting out the various traps and difficulties the PC's would encounter if they tried anything other than the front door. Unless I've forgotten something (which is possible since I wrote this adventure almost a year ago now), I don't say anywhere that a PC couldn't, for example, use Dimension Door to access the other side of the front door or a window. And as far as being inside the rooms, when I was playtesting this adventure, I had more than one PC peek through the tiny crack at the bottom of a room's door and use misty step to get themselves out.

I take your point, though. I probably should have made it clear that creative solutions by the PCs are absolutely encouraged, but it's up to the DM to rule on...See more

Hi,

I'm thinking of running this adventure with my group, but I'm having trouble visualizing how the rooms connect on the entrance floor. Do you have a map of this floor as well? Would be very helpful.

Many thanks,

Kristin

The download file has been updated to include a map of the 1st floor. It's a little bit of a hasty job, but I wanted to get it to you as quickly as possible. Enjoy!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
