Caravans are having a difficult time getting through to Parnast via the Black Road.

Organized attacks by orcs and other monstrous humanoids working in concert with one another have folks baffled. Little do they know that an unusually intelligent hill giant, going by the name of Bad Fruul is to blame.

SEER has sent her emissary Hsing, to task your group to accompany a caravan with a very special cargo destined for the Shrine of Axes in Parnast, and to figure out who is responsible.

My PDF for this adventure doesn't have the numbers for determining party strength (APL less than, equivalent, greater than) on page 3 - anyone have these? I'm only looking for the numbers for 5 characters. Thanks!

This was a very straightforward low-level adventure. The party had a lot of Zhentarim members, so they we're immediately hooked into the mission. Recommend to DMs and players alike. 5/5

This is an adventure that I see run often, but I'm not really sure why. After having run it myself, I have to say that I find this adventure to be rather underwhelming. Many of the encounters are largely superfluous and end up having little impact on players overall, or serve only to fill up time rather than to be engaging or wittle away at players resources.

The heat of the desert is not present in the module, and it's not clear how long players spend moving through its sands.

While this module is not awful, and I would be remiss if I passed on that impression, I would advise prospective buyers to consider other modules before picking up this one.

Really enjoyed the tone and feel of this module. The only issue I had with it when I ran it was the players blew threw the hobgoblin toll, with extreme ease and they thought there was going to be more. When they then reached town they felt like it was a let down and too easy.

Yeah, sadly we can only do so much with the CR we're given. Of course, you're encouraged to extend or update it as you see fit. :-)

In this adventure you start the Parnast Story line. It is a good start as you join a caravan and must protect it in the dessert. PC's get to make major decisions that will impact the rest of the story. I highly suggest starting this and continuing down the Parnast story line as there is a must buy further down.

Hey, just wanted to compliment you on a great job with The Black Road. It was fun to DM here in the Knoxville TN AL. I posted a couple of adventures on DM's Guild based in the Parnast area. I used ARAM in the adventures. Thanks for a great NPC.

This was a lot of fun and made the players think tactically. I enjoyed the pacing and it was just a ton of fun. Highly recommended

So, this is one of my favorite DDAL modules to date. The storyline is simple, the NPCs are few but richly done, and there's a great balance of RP, combat, pace, and strategy. I love desert settings in D&D and the challenges that this module brings to the players. It fits in well enough into a 2 hour session but can easily be stretched to 3 or 4 hours depending on how thoroughly you want to RP this event. Well done, WOTC! More modules like this, please!

I played through this.

Ratings:
-- Target Level: 2nd level (paladin 3 or 4).
-- Story: 5/5.
-- Pacing: 5/5.
-- Combat Difficulty: 5/5.

Introduction: Clear faction based hook. The hook did seem to indicate it was a secret mission (it was not).

Exploration: Not so much exploration, but there is one scene that was basically a skill challenge. We were not much of a "skill group" (and some people decided to do things that others would have been better at).

Pacing: Pacing was great, things moved nicely.

Combat: The last combat was great. Featured multiple levels/terrain. Excellent. I just wish my paladin could high jump higher (*cough cough* wizards: prepare jump, kidding).

Roleplaying Opportunities: In the skill challenge there was some.

Overall: Great module. If I had the opportunity, I think I would like to play through the entire Parnast series in order on one PC (this is the only Parnast...See more

Dealing with hazards while protecting a desert caravan is a good idea for a module. I just wish the author had researched how desert caravans actually work. Still, I expect that most people would not notice its logical incoherence and enjoy the module just fine.

This is probably the wrong place to ask for technical help. :-) You might want to try the "contact us" link in the footer. I can answer questions about the content, but I know absolutely nothing about the technical details of how DriveThru runs things.

I am looking at "Adjusting the Encounter" on page 15. There may be a typo since Weak Party appears to be less challenging than Very Weak Party, and another for Very Strong. Can you provide some clarification?

Other than that I like the module and am excited to run it this weekend!

You are right and we were wrong. I've checked my notes. My XP math Excel workbook says to remove the bugbear, not the bugbear chief BUT the version we sent to WotC clearly says to remove the bugbear chief. I'm so sorry we didn't catch this. I'll check with them about uploading a revised version. That might take a while though. Thank you so much for catching this typo!

The box on p. 15 SHOULD read:
Very Weak Party: Remove the bugbear chief.
Weak Party: Remove the bugbear, remove the worg, add a goblin.

So that gives you...
Very Weak Party: Bugbear and worg. (Total of 1.5 CR and 2 monsters.)
Weak Party: Bugbear chief and goblin. (Total of 3.25 CR and 2 monsters.)

So I just played through this in an AL game, and the magic item included was labeled as Bracers of Archery, but the description of them was something else entierly, I believe the Boots of the Winterlands, or some other item that effects resistance to temperature. I didn't personally purchase this so I don't know if it was just my DM's copy or something, but if any other purchasers can confirm this error, we should bring it to WotC's attention. Since it's adventurer's league stuff I feel it's pretty important this be corrected, either by changing the item label or description so that players can get the correct item.

It is correct. Like many magic items in previous seasons, this has properties in addition to those listed in the DMG. The cert repeats the information given in the module text.

The resistance to temperatures is a minor property we decided to give to the item. It functions as per the pbracers of archery plus the temperature resistance. Apologies for the confusion.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
