Mac users, please be careful to never open the sheets with Preview. Opening them even once with Preview will cause the sheet's form-fillable fields and automation to be the subject to a disintegration spell.

Thanks Javier Aumente for being the magnificent mind behind the design of these sheets! Please check out his collection of awesomely designed sheets for several different systems, in Spanish (I'm not allowed to link to external sources here, so please Google "Hojas de Personaje - La partida del sábado" to find Javier's work).

These sheets would not have been in the state that they are in now, without to the work of some awesome people:

A big thanks to Gretkatillor over on ENworld.org. The code in this character sheet (since its redesign from v6.0 onwards) has partly been borrowed from and was otherwise inspired by Gretkatillor's work.

Furthermore, some people on ENworld.org deserve my thanks for their help with transcribing stuff: shmooel.yakov, Fitsou, Athinar, and Noah Ivaldi.

Lastly, Noah Ivaldi deserves a special mention for his help in making sure everything is proper English, which as a non-native speaker is very much appreciated!

Thank you for the review!

The Pact Knight found in the Fan-made Additions Dropbox folder is made by a fan of the sheet and is his own homebrew. As far as I know, he didn't base it on anything or write down the rules for it in full. If you want, I might be able to get you in contact with him. Just drop me an email (see the bottom of the character sheet for my email address).

Good catch on the GitHub code! This is indeed fixed and will be included in the next release. I hope to release it tomorrow before my D&D game. I would release it tonight, but then I would miss tonight's D&D game, and that is not worth it ;) [yes I play this game often, what did you honestly expect?]

Good to see you figured it out!

But to reply on part of what you were saying, the Artificer is indeed treated as a completely separate class, because it is just that. Also, the sheet has no way of mix-matching classes, something needs to be defined as its own, separate thing for it to work with the JavaScript.

I put this out there on another thread but not sure where at this point but I am getting an error on importing a pdf that it is not recognizing it as a MPMB sheet pdf. I use the print function on the JavaScript popup control to print it as a pdf then use the import direct from pdf but it doesn't like it. Not sure what I am missing but any help would be appreciated.

Other than this and it seems anytime I load up my character I lose the custom languages and it defaults back to +1 for Scholar or whatnot, the sheet is really nice and thorough.

The first one may be an Acrobat issue -- Doesn't printing strip out all form-fillable fields? If you start from the MPMB PDF and print it to *a different* PDF file (I do this, "printing" as PDF to make much, much smaller files for emailing to my players), the original MPMB file with your character data should still work, but the new file you created will just be a plain document, as if you had scanned it in from a piece of paper.

I just replied to your comment at the Spell Sheets, but after reading your explanation here I understand where you are coming from.

You don't need to export anything to import into a new sheet. You can just go to "Import Directly from PDF" in the new sheet and select the old PDF. Don't first print to pdf, just select the original PDF.

What do you mean exactly with "anytime I load up my character I lose the custom languages and it defaults back to +1 for Scholar"? Do you mean any time you open the sheet? If that is the case, would you mind please sharing the PDF that exhibits this behaviour with me so that I can investigate this bug?

I just tried to recreate the language issue and it seems to work fine but I will look at my other instances and check them as well. It is possible that was fixed somehow in the passed.

As for the main issue, what I am reading is that there is no longer a way to export the sheets to a smaller format and "importing from PDF" is not reading from a 2MB output but from the 27+MB instance of another full sheet? The way I read the FAQ was that instead of exporting/importing it would read a base PDF with string manipulation and read it into the main sheet engine. Having these massive sheets seems bulky and sometimes locks up on some of my player's computers, and in my case I can't have more than one instance open at a time. Exporting to smaller files and the ability to read those back in for edit was really, really nice.

I'm sorry to hear that the FAQ didn't do a good job of explaining this, but indeed, you can't import a PDF that is not the fully-automated PDF.

The function to export and import small text-files that contain all the content of the fields is not gone, it is right there in the Import menu, listed as Import/Export .xfdf file (depreciated).
Do note that this function is depreciated for a reason and that when you export-import with this method, data will be lost in the transfer. This is because that method can't (and thus never did) support any of the pages for which you can have multiple copies, such as the companion, wild shape, adventurers league, and spell sheets.

Alternatively, might I suggest you keep the 'bulky' 27 MB file somewhere and use the print-to-pdf file for your daily needs. Then, when you want to upgrade your character to a new version, you can use the original. 27 MB is big for a pdf, but surely it isn't big enough to store somewhere on your hard drive.

Just to add on to this, Kirk -- If you want a small PDF file you can more easily email, send via FB or whatever (to put onto a small flash drive, or to send to a player in a way that prevents him from changing anything so he can print it at home), *Print* the file and choose a virtual PDF printer as the printer type. While the resulting "printed" file cannot be modified (because the form fill fields are stripped out/flattened), it's usually 3MB or smaller. Printing to an XPS file (Windows' answer to PDF) or an OXPS file (Open Office XPS) works, too, but they're a little bigger.

e.g.: I printed a lv5, 4-page character sheet in all 3 ways. 26 MB for the base file. Results (all were "printed" as b/w):
PDF: about 2MB
XPS: about 2.5MB
OXPS: about 3.5MB

Side note -- "Printing" them all in color (starting from a full-color file) made little difference in file size (e.g, 2.2MB or so for a PDF)

As always, MPMB this sheet is amazing! Thank you for continuing to update it and keep up with the UA articles for it as well!

I have a feature request which might be hard to do, but I'm not sure. Is there a way for you to add in a link to a UA source on the class select screen? For instance, if I am selecting a Favored Soul sorcerer, can there be a way to link to the UA article which includes that subclass? That way, I can see what I am selecting and can read up on it if I need help in deciding. I know there a link in the Sources dialog for it, but it's not convenient to have to go through each UA article if I am not sure which one my chosen feature comes from.

The Class Selection dialogue has a link to the source dialogue and a link to open a dialogue with all the sources listed. I tried making the source listings themselves into buttons, but this resulted in some unmanageable dialogues. You know what I'll do, I'll add a pop-up menu to the dialogue from which you can select the desired source and get a link to the original web page/article. Thank you for the suggestion!

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but I'm having an issue with the spell slots when multi-classing.
I'm using v12-991 and have levels set to Paladin 6/Sorc 5.
Looking at the Multi-class spell chart, I should have 4 3 3 2 spell slots but the sheet is listing it as 4 4 4 3 and has an annotation "of 8" and "Of 6" below the 1st 2nd and 3rd levels.
I'm not sure if this is something I can adjust or somehow correct or if it needs more significant changes to the sheet

On the "Show Extra Features" toolbar at the top of the sheets, turn on the "Mods" feature. This will allow you to edit your number of spell slots directly. (And yes, 4 3 3 2 is correct).

I never noticed this, either O_O ...I'd only done caster multiclassing where one of the classes was Warlock, which does work correctly. I tried a cleric 5/wizard 5 character just to see, and it correctly gave me 4 3 3 3 2. I think what's happening is that the sheet is not dividing the Paladin levels in half like it should, and simply adding them all together (Instead of doing the following and then checking the chart on PHB 164-65 : Paladin/Ranger : divide by 2; Rogue/Eldritch Knight/Arcane Trickster: Divide by 3. My guess is that nobody ever noticed before. Nice catch!

Thank you for contacting me about this bug. I have recently gotten a extensive bug report and had some back-and-forth with Nick on my Patreon who helped me to (finally) get to the bottom of this bug. This only happens when you make a character with a subclass and then subsequently change its subclass. This will be fixed in the next version.

In the meantime, you can use the solution that Eric suggested, by using the Mods button to change the amount of checkboxes shown.

@Erik: The sheet has no issue with correctly calculating the spell slots for classes that have half or one-third spellcasting progression. You can test this yourself, just make a Cleric 1, Eldritch Knight 3 and see what happens :)

I hope I don't come of as ungrateful, because having you answer some of these questions faster than I can is certainly helpful, but please don't speculate on the functionality of the sheet if you haven't tried it. You could have easily verified if the sheet is able to divide the Paladin level by half for calculating spell slots.

Moving the character portrait to the first page is rather tricky, because the first page is really busy. Something from the first page would probably have to be moved to the background page. Found a text parsing error on Feats (.992). Error is present on-screen and when printed:

- If a Feat is recognized by the system, text will overflow, cutting off a number of words. Also, these cannot be user-edited (will revert when the text box loses focus)
- If a Feat is NOT recognized by the system, text will overflow a bit beyond the edge of the last line, but all words are still present.

One minor and one not quite so minor error in .991/992 :) In order:

- When choosing a Primal Path for a barbarian, "Ancestral Guardian" appears twice

- When *importing* an older character sheet: When the sheet checks for prerequisites needed for Feats, it does this BEFORE filling in the stats. Ex: An imported character with 20 CHA will get "Prerequisites not met" error if they have the feat "Inspiring Leader" (which requires 13 CHA). The sheet gives the choice to add the Feat anyway.

Some other people have reported similar problems. I gave everybody the same advice, but nobody has responded to that advice so I don't know if it works...

The files on the DMs Guild site are not corrupt, I can download and use them without issue. The problem you are experiencing could either be due to the way you are downloading, your virus scanner tripping up the file, or the software you are using to open the files, but that last one is unlikely.

- I recommend to try to download using another browser.
- If that doesn't work, you can try to use the 'Dropbox' feature for downloading from DMs Guild (go to your My Library page to use this: http://www.dmsguild.com/my_library.php ).
- If that also doesn't work, you probably need to contact the people who run this website about this issue: http://www.dmsguild.com/contact_us.php

I don't see anything in the subclass that can't be put into the sheet's automation. It might be a bit of a challenge if you also want to add automation for the attacks (adding the bonus damage automatically), but there are a lot of examples of this in the code that you can cannibalize.

Actually I mean't to ask exactly that, if I wanted to use an existing Monk subclass or using existing bits of other class as a template, how can I access those scripts ? I found the Homebrew ones on the repository but if I want the original script how can I get them ? Also do oyu knwo of any class that has damage modifier like that I could look at ?

PS thx a lot for your replies I really appreciate

All of the code of this sheet is open source. You can see all of it on my GitHub (https://github.com/morepurplemorebetter/MPMBs-Character-Record-Sheet).

The syntax for the code is found on my GitHub as well (https://github.com/morepurplemorebetter/MPMBs-Character-Record-Sheet/tree/master/additional%20content%20syntax), and can also be accessed on Dropbox (http://flapkan.com/mpmb/syntax).

I recommend using the GitHub. In the _variables folder you can find all the class JSON objects as they are used by the sheet. Just look for an entry that reads "calcChanges : {" for an example of something that changes the attack calculations.

Note that you can find the above links in the "Add Custom Script"-dialogue as well.

This is how far I got but the change damage when using spear effect is clearly the most complex to create. AM I remotely close ?

I would say you are getting on great, but you might want to reconsider using the monk's martial arts die section for inspiration, because now you are changing the die of any monk weapon :P

I would like to comment in more detail, but the DMs Guild comment section is not really suited for discussing code, as all formatting is rendered useless here. Could you please post your code in a Gist on GitHub, on the ENworld forum thread, or send it as a .txt file to my email?

I noticed that when I make a Hobgoblin character, the Racial ability bumps in the Scores screen is showing +2 CON, +1 INT but it is setting +2 DEX, +1 CON. The CON and INT bumps are the correct ones from Volo's Guide to Monsters. v12.98 sheet

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
