(Not So) Legendary Actions

Welcome to Christmas in July! For the rest of July, this digital title has been marked down by 25%! For more values, visit our Christmas in July sale page.

Legendary Actions are one of the best-regarded mechanics of the 5th Edition of Dungeons & Dragons, providing DMs the tools to accurately portray the deadliness of higher-level creatures. You know you are in trouble when the dragon simply retaliates your sword slash with a tail sweep without even waiting for its own turn.

This feature along with Legendary Resistance however is restricted to very powerful monsters, those we call - quite appropriately - legendary. But what if there was a way to incorporate such mecanics to lesser threats, making them more dangerous albeit not as deadly as the ones described in the rules?

So here it is: four “monster tier” templates to be added to existing creatures to give your players a harder time!

My group has a balanced 5 member party, and it's difficult to respond to the sheer amount of actions they can take in combat. This looks like a great way to even the playing field without just trying to overwhelm them with numbers, which gets tedious rather than fun.

An excellent piece of work. Easy to use on-the-fly. Makes solo monster encounters actually challenging for the PCs and make boss monsters truly "Boss".

Love it. I have been looking for a way to make my boss monsters a bit more formidable.

Hey, I tested it here and it seems to be working fine, but since I'm the one who published it, it might be some other issue. Have you tried clicking on the "switch to the old interface" thing? I have to do it all the time...

This happened with a couple items all around the same time, so I reported them, and found out it was a site wide issue, that got fixed.

Rules Edition(s)
Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
