SPA1: Mad Mage's Mansion

ADD TO WISHLIST >
Suggested Price $1.00

Who could know what is hidden within the secluded mansion of the crazed mage?
Well, now, when nobody has seen him here for more than a year, it’s the best time to find out!

A 4-hour adventure for two 1st–2nd level characters.

Small Party Adventure: Though the party size of 3–5 characters is considered optimal in D&D, there are times when you can only gather one or two players at most. This adventure is designed exactly for such occasions.

Hi-res maps archive included.

I just bought the adventure and I am looking forward to running it online. Would you happen to have versions of the maps without the grid?

Sure, added no-grid maps archive.

Could you elaborate on a reason you need maps without the grid though? I tested the original maps with Roll20 and they worked quite well.

Simply that my group strongly prefers hex grids. Thanks!

I ran through this adventure with two new-ish players and we had a wonderful time! I initially grabbed it for free and then came back and purchased it (try before you buy!). It took us about 4 hours to complete but the players actually saw only about half of the mansion and grounds.

**Spoiler ahead**

They somehow managed to bee-line straight to the library, found the secret, subdued the imp and allowed it to complete the ritual, wherefore, without thinking, they jumped into the portal themselves! I thought that was a wonderful way to end it so I allowed it to happen, finishing with - "To this day when asked about the Mad Mage's Mansion, Johann, the innkeeper at the Green Crow Inn, simply shakes his head, saying "A few years ago some adventurers came through here and went looking for it, and they 'aint never come back. I'd stay away if I were you..."

Hi Vladimir. I just read through your adventure, and I am really excited to try it out soon. I have a question about the secret tunnel C2. What is the purpose for it, from Gerardus' perspective?

Hi Hans,
Thanks for taking interest in my adventure!
The C2 tunnel system was designed by Gerardus in attempt to dissuade those intruders who somehow found this backup escape route of his. Though perhaps there also were some other magical alarm and protection systems installed there, now they're all but gone (except one).

I really enjoyed this adventure. I ran it for my wife who played a pair of dwarves and it worked great. I loved how you set up the locations where if I hadn't read everything ahead of time that was ok since it will mention if the players do this skip to S.4. Also I liked the initiative tracker section and the area to track HP for the monsters. I really enjoyed it and will certainly look at your other SPA modules.

Would it be possible to upload a copy of the outside map without numbers? Just thought I would ask before I go through the trouble of photoshopping them out.
I am looking forward to running this adventure soon.

Hi Vladimir,

We played this adventure yesterday and it was really cool ! Also, I translated almost all of the adventure in French for this occasion, and I wanted to ask you if you would be ok that I share the translated version publicly ?

Kind regards
Fabien

Hi Fabien,
I'm glad you liked my adventure! Sorry for a delayed response, just noticed your comment.
You could share the translation, if that is not against dmsguild licensing rules, and as long as you include link to the original adventure page in the translated text.

P.S.: You may be interested in my new SPA module: Goblins vs. Kobolds. Look for the link in the description above!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
