Haven Cross: The Adventurers Guild

ADD TO WISHLIST >

This is the PDF version. If you are looking for the Fantasy Grounds VTT version - click here.

The Village of Haven Cross is a great set-up to start a new campaign or to introduce Dungeons and Dragons to new players.

It provides a fun environment both to players and DMs offering great flexibility and freedom, with the possibility of an immersive experience in between quests.

Besides the Adventurer's Guild and the Village of Haven Cross I included one adventure for level 1 to 4 characters that can be used as the entry quest to those wishing to join the guild.

There is a total of 21 high-quality maps, presented here with standard and low resolutions on ZIP files.

They are available on a high-resolution pack as well:

Will be tweaking to add women NPCs as there seem to be none but otherwise these are great and I suspect will be very useful in my first DM experience coming up in a few weeks.

Hello Karolyn,
Thanks for the heads up, that is a very good point that I did not notice.
Makes me think that for future content I should create more than one option for each NPC (Race, Gender, Class), for the DMs to choose their favourites.
I don't think I will be able to dedicate any time to my hobby in the near future, but once I can I will definitely revise this module starting with the NPC choices.
Thanks for the feedback!

Any chance you could adapt this to FG (Fantasy Grounds)?

Hello Robert,
I would love to adapt it.
Unfortunately, due changes in my professional and family life, I cannot dedicate time to my favourite hobby, D&D, without compromising the time I spend with my kids, who are too young to play.
I would like to promise to do it in the future, but that would be in a few years from now.

Rob Twohy can do the conversion for you if you're interested, he is fair about it and has converted roughly over 100 DMs Guild products for other authors.

Absolutely fantastic. I'm a first time DM with one player completely new to D&D. It's been a fantastic introduction to the game for him and been a godsend for me as I could use the structure of Haven Cross. They really enjoyed an exhausting delivery... it was so good to throw different things at them as they went along. I loved every second of running it thanks.

Hello Anne,
Thank you very much for the comment.
It really makes me happy when I hear that people have fun as a group.
I tried structuring it as for the DMs to have as much fun as the players, supper happy that it worked for you!

This is EXACTLY what I needed to see. I've been writing up my own "Adventurer's guild" to use in a more 'adventure/oneshot' focused campaign for some friends. With basic story elements done...but this document is giving me a great look at structural questions that needed answering!

Very cool.

Thank you Jacob,
I am glad to hear you liked the content.
The next step that I was developing for the module was a "Notice Board" type of one-shot adventures, so the group could gather in front of it and decide how the day would be, with real print-out for the players to handle, with the rewards as a loose indication of the risk involved.
Unfortunately, I can't dedicate time now to this great hobby and to conclude this part.
I hope your adventures are running fun.

A friend of mine and I have been playing a similar game with a competitors product (not D&D, but really similar), so I went ahead and bought yours -- hoping to switch the group over to 5e. :D Anyway, wanted to thank you for providing this for newcomers to fifth edition!

Hey Rafael - I am going to start running my first campaign with your Haven's Cross content starting on 1/19/2018 (only 10 days away). We're going to do a session 0, but I am going to use your module, along with a few others to get my crew off the ground and cut my teeth on DM'ing. Just wanted to say thank you for putting this together. I think the idea of having an adventurer's guild really allows for new players that aren't as familiar with D&D to grab onto something in terms of a motive for being in the world. Good stuff, I will update this post with observations and insights (if you're interested) as we run it.

I'm excited to try this out. I'm trying to get into DMing and recently convinced my wife to try playing. This looks like it will work really well as an introduction for me into running a game and as an introduction for my wife into how to play the game. I'll comment further once I've actually tried it out, but right now I feel it is a perfect module to use for my purposes right now.

Thanks Matthew, that is exactly how this module started, when I first DM for my lovely wife. But I also have friends and siblings who can join once in a while, I want to keep it flexible so people can come and go and still feel part of the story, hence the adventurers guild.
And, the second book on the module is almost ready! With a couple more adventures and locations in Haven Cross...
Thanks for the support!

Commenting on what was updated would be very helpful. That way we need only download those particulars instead of everything.

Thanks for the suggestion Nod, I will share more details from now on. The last update on the PDF file was a major grammar and spelling review. The maps have not been changed, the files were uploaded again due to a problem with the "one button download". From now there should be only minor updates, and I will be able to give more precise information. I hope you enjoy Haven Cross. The next book on the module is already on the way, with two more quests and additional locations and NPCs in Haven Cross.

A bit awkward. As of 7/13/2016, the latest Adobe Acrobat claims the Haven Cross PDF is "damaged and cannot be repaired." Hoping this isn't a long-term issue.

Thanks Matt. I think this is a problem with the one button download. Getting it as ZIP file should be OK.
I am waiting for DMs Guild support.

The first title of the Haven Cross Module.
There are many more to come.
It would be really helpful to have feedback on this title while I am working on the rest of the module.
Have you played "An Exhausting Delivery" quest with your group? Any experiences you would like to share?

So far I thank the community for all the support I received!!

Hey bud - I am still running this adventure and I have added about 400 things if you're interested. I actually didn't use many of the starting quests but I have built a ton of digital maps and NPC details. I have changed quite a few things, but not sure if you'd be interested in seeing any of it. Hit me up if you want any of the resources to add to this already insanely cool package! =)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
