High Magic - Elven Wizard Arcane Tradition

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Elves have a special connection to the Weave and are able to manipulate it directly. This direct manipulation of the Weave is known as High Magic. The elves have been using High Magic since before the days of Cormanthor.

An elf wizard character may choose this Arcane Tradition at 2nd level. Drow elves are barred from choosing this arcane tradition.

*******

I looked back at the High Magic options from previous editions, and felt like there ought to be a way make High Magic usable for PCs at lower levels (meaning below level 20). This is my attempt at making High Magic fun, usable, and not overpowered.

I am very interested in your feedback, and I'm totally open to making changes if this seems too powerful for a single PC. I included most of the useful High Magic spells, like the Song of Enevahr, the Traveling Path, and others, as well as another I made for fun. Tell me if you like it or not :)

Leave me a review with useful feedback, and I'll send you one of my other Magic Items products, free. Your choice! Just leave your contact info. Honest, thoughtful feedback only, please

Drow are actually capable of casting high elven magic and there are actually plenty of examples of them using it.

So if a dark elf wanted to go this tradition I don't know why the author has banned it

These ideas are my attempt to update older ideas (as I understood them) into 5E. In all my reading of those older edition rules, my impression was that Dark Elves didn't have High Magic of their own. It's totally possible I was mistaken, or even that more authoritative authors have written newer things that invalidate the 'ban.'

Frankly, I'm just thrilled that you actually read it, and knew enough about the subject to help me notice a flaw. Thank you. Seriously.

If anybody wants to play a dark elf with access to High Magic, in a world where High Elves normally have access to High Magic, I totally support it. And thanks again for your feedback. :)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
