Guy de Gaxian's Dungeon Monsters - Level 1

ADD TO WISHLIST >

From out of the depths of the Drowic Underworld, the monsters of the Dungeons of the Elder Age have arisen once again ...

Rot Grubs, Ear Weevils, Monstrous Ticks, Carnivorous Apes.  Ice Toads, the fell Leucrotta, Slithering Trackers, even the vile and legendary Amphisbaena …

So many of the eldritch horrors of the First and Glorious Age — only whispered of now, and nearly forgotten, in the staid Age of the Fifth — are lost to us. They live on, in the dungeons deep, yet our sages are ignorant of their secrets.  And yet?

For the Master who is willing to delve into the ancestral archives, the locked and ancient library which lies beneath the Drowic Lyceum of the Dark Seraphim, there are many untold horrors and wonders to be learned of. The coastal Archmages of the Fifth Age, aloft in their ivory towers, have unknowingly silenced and stifled many of these forbidden works, but an intrepid Learner Aspirant can still find them, and learn from them, and solemnly take heed … if you dare.

Of all the greatest bestiaries of the Elder World, by far the most renowned was the Ghastly Grimoire of the greatest dungeon delver history has ever known, the doughty, stalwart, and famously eccentric Viscount of Lacus Genevra. His name? Why, (Esq.) Guy de Gaxian, of course …

Are you interested, foremost among your peers, to know his secrets?  Yes?  Then be silent. Bring your lock picks, your cloak of invisibility. Do not be seen. And ere this witching hour, come to me.  For I have a most wondrous book for you …

(This is an extensive volume of classic random monster and NPC encounters for Dungeon Level I, and for adventurers of levels 1-3.  Using this supplement, you can generate a comprehensive encounter faster than ever before.  In this book you will find thousands of potential random encounters, over a dozen classic monsters, advice for customizing encounters and monster activities, 45 old school NPC templates, guidelines for approximating NPC Challenge Ratings at a glance, and 50 quality pieces of old school artwork from rare and obscure sources.  28,400 words, 157 pages.  From Kent David Kelly and Wonderland Imprints - Only the Finest Works of Fantasy.)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
