Ronin Archetype

Suggested Price $0.00

An archetype for the Fighter class in 5th edition.

Wielding their signature katana and wakizashi simultaneously, Ronin are as potent in melee as a Champion, although they are less versatile.

I wanted to create a Fighter Archetype who specializes in two weapon fighting. I drew inspiration from the Oriental Adventures version. Any comments or ideas are welcome as I'd like to balance this out since I will be using it in my home games. The Ronin is a self sufficient, raw damage dealer, focused on keeping the damage per round high even at end game. He has a few charisma benefits allowing more influence in the social encounters.

Thanks for the purchased copies everyone. I'll be releasing the sohei as well as the ninja archetypes within the next few days. Please rate if you like it or if you don't.

v1.01 - Fixed typos

v1.02 - Frightening Presence level adjusted from 20 -> 18. Reason: That's when the last fighter archetype feature is unlocked and was an oversite on my part.

v1.03 - Fixed Typos. Added attunement and clarified magical effects with spirit Daisho. Added page background.

v1.04 - Changed Stare Down to a contest between Intimidation and Insight, added a way for creatures under the effect to end it. Changed Frightening Presence DC to Charisma Modifier instead of Str/dex..oversite

v1.05 - Phrasing of features changed, adjustments to features and snipped unnecessary info. Thanks to Joseph R.

5th Edition, I wasn't aware of archetypes in other editions?

1.Good Catch. Will update shortly.
2.The magical +1/+2/+3 bonus does not stack, however if it has another magical property and no +1/2/3 magical effect it it will gain that as well.
3. Your daisho can be any Longsword and short sword combination, say if you were wielding just the longsword, it would gain the bonus, likewise for just the shortsword. I was contemplating attunement for your daisho in order to unlock the magical bonus. Concerns?
4. Frightening presence is supposed to be a once per encounter power, I dont feel disadvantage on attack and ability checks for one round is very game breaking considering there is a save involved and it is a final archetype power. However, if more feel this is OP I will be happy to change it. (compare it to the avenging angel paladin archetype power)

"Freightening" should be "Frightening," and "once per encounter" should probably be "once per short rest." The Spirit Daisho bonuses don't stack if you have a magical shortsword and longsword already, right? Do you have to be wielding both in order for either to get the bonuses? Overall I think it's probably balanced with the other archetypes; I wouldn't choose one as being clearly superior to the others.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
