"Fun, charming & later on 'heart felt'"

"This adventure is superb"

"If you're looking for a fun, short adventure this one will fit the bill"

A retired adventurer approaches our heroes with a mission - help find a former comrade, a talented young wizard who went missing twenty years ago. The quest takes them into a magical underground lair, where every room reveals something as remarkable as it is deadly. But they soon realise that finding the wizard was the easy part...

A 4-5 hour adventure for character levels 2-3, featuring combat, traps, puzzles and roleplaying.

There was a small but important error in location 1a, which I have now corrected

a few things I noticed:

-pg3 "the who place smells strongly of dung" should be "whole place"
-pg5 "After the that, the following effect occurs." I think remove the first "the"
-pg6 The comment and locations of the Abyss might be correct but are not described in 5E material. It is the "infinite layers" of the Abyss (not 666). I would recommend keeping the layers in the murals tied to 5E material-using the description in the DMG and MM.
-pg11 with its current stats the lesser water weird should only have a +3 to hit not +5. Also the lower strength should affect the DC as well. The MM water weird has a 17 strength.

An ogre falls into the XP threshold for a 2nd lvl party but can still 1-shot someone if the DM rolls damage...just something I would be cautious about using.

BTW, I appreciate you taking the time to write a review, and I am now inclined to strengthen the dungeon climax a bit. In your opinion, what makes a strong climax for a dungeon?

I was just expecting a final confrontation with the sorcerer or at least a ghostly remnant of the now-dead sorcerer; something to protect the flask in the room. Animated lab equipment, weak golem lab assistant, etc...? Or a chance for a PC to get pulled into a bottle themselves...

Now that you have a few low level adventures you could even go back and leave a hook in a 1st lvl adventure that could lead the adventurers to this dungeon for continuity.

Just my two cents!

Thanks Jeremy, those are some nice ideas. I was really treating the dungeon as a means to the role-play conflict in the final chapter, but I get what you mean giving it a bit of cohesion in and of itself, and have it "wrapped up" nicely before the next part.

This is useful feedback and I'll give it some thought.

Hi Jeremy, I've fixed those errata and also come up with a much stronger (and slightly unusual) climactic fight for the mini-dungeon. I'll be keen to hear your opinion if you have time to download the new file. If you do like what I've done, you might consider bumping up your review score a notch. Thankyou!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
