The Lightborn - New Race

EDIT: v2 Uploaded, fixes grammar & format issues. Thank you to all who flagged these to me! Sorry for the delay!

Some heroes are not made in the fires of conflict, or circumstance. Some heroes are simply born to be so. Fear has little meaning to them. The people look to them without thinking. They are the beacon of light in the darkness. They are the Lightborn.

Lightborn, a race infused with positive planar energy and with a talent for inspiration and courage. Most become legendary figures devoted to helping others in whatever form they can, free of the constraints of law or doctrine. A rare few, however, let their natural skill and the stories they inspire delude them into a dangerous arrogance, willing to do anything to achieve their goals and maintain their reputation.

This new race offers an option for characters who are simply born to become heroes (or at least believe so), characters who inspires others and stand defiantly against those they see as their enemy.

Version 1.0

Thank you to Kit Buss, DnD 5e Homebrew, /r/unearthedarcana & Walrock!

I don't know if anyone from our podcast has contacted you yet or not but we reviewed your product on our show. We are called the Homebrew Review and we reviewed your race on episodes 26-30. Mike really enjoyed the race!

I really enjoy this race, it's a nice alternative for pretty boring 'standard' humans.
On related note, would you want to have it translated into Polish? Might come in handy in London area :)

Could we get a printer friendly version of this at some point in the future? I don't think my printer could handle all that parchment background!

Hey Mark, thanks for creating this, I have used it for a couple of NPC characters in my world to add a bit of depth, help the players feel like there is more going on in the world than just what they are doing.
It also gave me the idea of creating something for one of my players, he is running a sorcerer, but he gained his powers when he donned two silver rings, both are tied to a different deity and both are trying to influence him.
I had not considered going deeper than voices in his head, but now I am almost finished fine tuning a Sub class of sorcerer.

Hey Joe,

Nope, in the PDF I've made it setting neutral so Lightborn can fit into your game. More details in the doc, but generally it's simply the energy of the Positive Plane infusing the character from a young age.

Thanks for the wonderful work Mark!

As a new DM, resources like this and being able to see how they are used (oh Trott and his RP), helps me to understand how I can fold something like this into my own campaign. I have an odd version of Curse of Strahd going at the moment; a group who likes vampires and undead, but not horror. The lightborn race will add a bit of... well, light... to the story, so thanks for the perfect timing!

As a writer I love the creativity, I hope you'll write more in the future.
Thanks again!

Oh so sorry! Do you get an error? Can you describe the problem? I'm afraid I'm not very good at making PDFs so will have to find a solution via google!

Thanks Thomas! Hahah no plans for Vampire Hunter (Check out Unearthed Arcana on the Wizards website, or even Matt M's Blood Hunter) or Psion classes just yet. Working on a Class option for Sorcerer though!

Hi Mark, I caught a small typo in the last sentence of the Beacon of Light section. The sentence reads like this: if misfortune befalls those their friends or those they seek to help. Did you mean "those they call friends," or something similar?

Minor nitpick, otherwise I'd like to say you did a great job on this PDF! :)

Thanks Jose! A few typos/grammar slip ups made their way into the doc despite a lot of checks. ;) I should have a version up at the end of the weekend which fixes the majority of these errors.

Go Mark! Loving the campaign and look forward to the stream every week. Here's to the Rollers who religiously take notes so they don't miss anything! From the evidence so far shown through Cam, sounds like a very accurate describtion! Love it!

Thanks for the support! This is a re-worked version from Cam, but it based on the themes and idea I originally gave to Trott. Just re-balanced and re-written for a generic universe. :) Thanks again!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
