Gem Dragons of Faerûn

"Eldenser is a wyrm of impossible age. His decrepit body lies a crypt in Waterdeep's City of the Dead, his lavender scales slowly fading to milky white in his deathlike stasis...."

Crystal, amethyst, sapphire, emerald, topaz, and the Ruby Dragon Sardior himself--gem dragons have been part of D&D since the earliest days.

Ed Greenwood says: "There's something cool about dragons. A special sort of cool: great power, hubris, magic, wits to match the adventurers' own. Any Dungeon Master can always use a new dragon, either a detailed individual or entirely new sorts of dragons. In Gem Dragons of Faerûn, you get both."

"Gem dragons have been around for a long time, but this is the best and most detailed treatment of them I've ever laid eager DM's eyes on, and I met an old friend in its pages. Lovingly worked into the fabric of the Realms and fully realized for any D&D campaign, these wyrms are ready to leap off the pages and into your campaign. A winner! Two talons way, way up!"

This 24-page PDF includes:

  • 5 new dragon types: amethyst, crystal, emerald, sapphire, and topaz
  • Full stats for every age category from wyrmling to ancient, plus detailed lair actions and regional effect
  • The Ruby Dragon Sardior, paragon of gem dragons, plus his allies and lore
  • 5 more individual dragons of the Forgotten Realms including Eldenser, the Wyrm Who Hides in Blades and Viridias, the Umbral Mist, with their lore, motivations, and secret details

Add a new branch to the dragon family tree: get Gem Dragons of Faerûn today!

It's for D&D 5e specifically... So yes.

I see that this product has been updated with more art and an enhanced layout since I initially purchased it. Is it safe to assume that a print copy ordered now would be of this updated, revised version?

Since both gem dragons and Faerûn are WotC properties, the DMs Guild is the only place you can find these monsters. That just means there are even more new monsters in the ToB!

I wish there was a preview of the art quality in the preview besides the cover

This is the DMs Guild, so art is not really a priority. The cover art is the only art currently in the PDF--if we hit gold or platinum sales, we'll commission more art.

The art is GREAT. Trust me on that. The content though? That's even better!

Why's ed greenwood quoting on this? did he have something to do with it? is he a friend of the program? or is ed just trolling DMGuild buying random modules and offering quotes for ones he likes?

We sent Gem Dragons to Mr. Greenwood and asked his opinion because he invented the Realms, and we hoped he might say something about it. And boy did he ever! Very pleased to get his seal of approval.

Ryan B, you do know Wolfgang Baur, whose company produced this, is one of the classic TSR D&D writers yes? As in, Ed Greenwood did not just randomly find him among the other fan writers on this site. They're actually colleagues.

Unfortunately, neither of the Preview links work for me; they both just open up a blank window. And since I won't buy any third-party items off DMs Guild after having been burned by terrible layout in a few purchases... *shrug*

Update: You can see the Full-size Preview PDF by navigating directly to http://watermark.dmsguild.com/pdf_previews/180402-sample.pdf. I'm still not sure why the pop-up doesn't work, though.

Actually, for me it still does not work. When I left-click the Quick preview button, only white window appears. When I right-click and chose "open link in new Tab", new tab appears, which is white except for text "click page corners to turn pages" in the upper left corner. Using Firefox 44 on Ubuntu 14 LTS.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
