Any Race a Vampire: Vampyric Curse

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Thirst for Blood...

This supplement redesigns vampyrism as a transferable curse, so all players have the option to play as vampires without restrictions to race or class.

Once affected, a character must choose whether to embrace their bloodlust in exchange for increased power or seek out a cure.

The curse and its five stages are explained in full detail, including optional abilities/powers, rules variants, as well as suggestions for DMs on how to incorporate this supplement into your 5th edition campaign.

This is a perfect companion for Curse of Strahd and related adventures!

Version 1.1 Update

  • Rebalanced drawback from Bloodlust features
  • Added the curse's effect on alignment
  • Added new section on "Seeking a Cure", describing how to cure all stages of the curse, including a new ritual
  • Added "Preserving Blood" section, which introduces a way to preserve fresh blood for later consumption
  • Added additional Variant Rules for Bloodlust and other features

Stage 3's Bloodlust mentions using XXX, but Stage 3 doesn't have access to XXX? I also feel it's a little strange they don't get a XXX for over a month, considering how iconic vampire fangs are. I would imagine it'd just get stronger as the stages progress, similar to the Claws.

I would like to say this Does not give players much option but Die from the curse not advance, and it becomes harder not easier for them as they do advance. keep in mind that the 6th stage of exhaustion is death what you say in this is that after 12 hours a vampire lord who hasn't consumed at least 1 Pint of blood Dies entirely flat out. Such situation would mean Vampires like Strahd would die long before adventurers arrive to slay them as they would have bleed everyone they could dry and then just keel over. Blood is supposed to be in place of a vampires food, and thus like a human they should be able to survive for 3 weeks without it at all. They would be starving yes, but the wouldn't die if they skipped their mid afternoon slurry. What I would suggest is keep the blood lust early on for stage one maybe but have it do 1 level of exhaustion per 24 hours as the characters head begins to pound and the sight of blood makes their hunger Grow, I would also put a rule saying that you can't reach the 6th level of exhaustion...See more

Hi David,
Firstly, thank you for your purchase and feedback. I think its a great note to add that a vampire couldn't reach the lethal six level of exhaustion from the curse--period; it is not designed with the intention of easily killing off accursed players. Rather, it is meant to balance out the increasingly strong features the player will receive with increasing disadvantages (which the player will presumably work around to the best of their ability).
In my variants section, I will also consider adding a less harsh Bloodlust feature as an alternative to the standard and gritty versions, taking into account what you've said. Also, if your campaign is one that skips a lot of days for travel/narrative/etc., then I might recommend using the skill checks mentioned in the same variant section to simulate the vampire's blood consumption for those days. Also, I know that in traditional vampire lore, blood is a substitute for food, but my idea was to highlight the gradual aspect of the player's transformation,...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
