A Treasure Hunt in the North!

Hired by the dwarves of Clan Stoneshaft to track down a long lost adventurer, the party seeks clues while running afoul of recently freed demons, an elven tribe and a pack of gnolls engaged in a war for territory, and undead created from the curse of the dwarven god of greed. Throughout it all, though, the true danger is the hidden enemy that is actively working to defeat the party and keep a four centuries old secret hidden from their dwarven patrons.

Seeking the Bored is intended to be the first in a trilogy of adventures that is connected to the history of Thornhold/Stoneshaft Hold on the Sword Coast. This adventure is designed for five 3rd level adventurers.

Includes:

  • 4 new monsters

  • Encounter maps with labeled versions for the DM as well as unlabeled ones usable as handouts or on a virtual table top

  • A six page write up on the city of Yartar, center of river commerce in the North region of Faerun and located in the Dessarin river region featured in the Elemental Evil storyline.

Part 2 of the storyline is out, No Rest for the Dead. Please check it out and continue the storyline of assisting the dwarves of Stoneshaft Hold!

Thanks Robert. I've been laying out the plot lines for parts 2 and 3. Looking like part 2 will be a Waterdeep story while part 3 will drift north to the Mere of Dead Men.

I enjoyed reading this adventure. Best one I've down loaded off here yet. Very much in my style of DM'ing.

Wonderful blend of old school Gygaxian ecology, with new school opportunities for roleplaying and tactical combat, even a little bit of mystery and intrigue.

I will certainly be running it soon. Can't wait for the sequel.

Thank you, I will look into it tomorrow when I am off my iPad. I had done an update but intended for it to replace the PDF, not add on a whole new one.

If I am correct, they are not entirely identical. The description of the signet ring that Balgan Stoneshaft hires you to find is different. I posted the adventure and then a couple days after was reading Waterdeep and the North from back in 1st Ed days and found that House Margaster actually had a coat of arms described there, so I decided to put in the update for any buyers that really want their Realms-lore complete.

Just purchased the adventure and haven't gone through it yet. Technical note though: seems like there are two identical copies of the PDF included in the download for nine files total. Seemed a bit weird?

As I start working on notes and potential realmslore features for the next Part of the adventure chain (intending it to be a trilogy), please feel free to post comments here. Did something not work right for your table? Did the group take things in a really different direction? I'd love feedback that could help get woven into future work from the ground up. Thanks!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
