Welcome to DiBastet's Monster Archetypes. Inside each product you'll find 3 races and archetypes allowing you to play as a certain iconic monster. All these archetypes are from the end of 2014 and were playtested by my own group.

My players always seem to want to play as monsters when appropriate to the setting. Problem is that most of the times the rules didn't quite allowed you to in a somewhat balanced way. Then came the 3e era Savage Species sourcebook with its monster classes that allowed you to play as a monster from level 1. The classes were cool, but the LA built in the system was the problem, so back then we created our own monster classes. They were basically "racial substitution levels" (the archetypes' grandfather) for the class that played closest to the monster, or that you could best emulate the monster with, that traded certain abilities for monster specific ones. And 5e archetypes fit perfectly into this idea.

When the MM came out all we had to do was decide what class our favorite monsters played closest to and adapt them as archetypes that we now share with you.

Inside you'll find the following races and accompanying archetypes.

Angel (Paladin): "Angels are celestial agents sent forth into the planes to further its god's agenda. While their beauty may drive onlookers awestruck, they are also fierce destroyers of evil, mercilessly butchering legions of fiends by themselves.". Angels are powerhouses and here in Secrets of Alancia we just love them. Use your blinding gaze and call the solar's power!

Lamia (Sorcerer): "A lamia has a beautiful humanoid upper body that merges into a powerful four-legged leonine form. Its vicious black claws speak to its predatory nature, as does its hunger for torture and humanoid flesh." Lamias are primary spellcasters, but their intoxicating touch and lion body can help out.

Succubus (Rogue): "Succubi and incubi inhabit all of the Lower Planes, and the lascivious dark-winged fiends can be found in the service or company of many evil creatures, fiendish overlord and foolish mortal alike." An all-around favorite, no need to deny it. We feel that rogue fits very well with the spellcasting-less nature of 5e succubus, and their gamut of powers are presented in a similar way to the elemental monk.

So far we had one Ogre Mage (fighter) and a player considered an Inevitable (ranger) but in the end didn't play him. I got other monsters ready, but since I don't have three monster classes that were playtested by real players I can't release them yet.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
