Hi Marc,

I won't ask if there's a date for the update since I know you're all working hard. What I will ask though is have you had any luck with getting permission for blood hunters, gunslingers etc??

Also one question for Marc. I know some Arcana Unearthed stuff will be included. Does that include the artificer and mystic? I know wizards hasn't fully released them yet but I still thought I would ask
Customer avatar
Marc A March 02, 2018 11:18 am UTC
Hi Jacob,

Those two are a bit of a struggle.
I do want to include them, but only if I get them to feel right.
If they aren't ready in time for 2.0, I'll include them as soon as they're ready for publication.

Jacob W March 02, 2018 1:30 pm UTC
I figured that would be the case. I love both of the classes but they are a bit of a handful

So I came up with a 27th level ability for Matthew Mercer's College of the Maestro. Nothing fancy really. They get another use of bardic inspiration and know all the conducting techniques. Any thoughts?
Customer avatar
Marc A March 02, 2018 11:31 am UTC
Hi Jacob,

It's a good concept as it strengthens the archetype's core mechanics. Kudos!
However, I think adding all conducting techniques is a bit overkill.
Going from knowing 4 to knowing 10 is a massive bump up. It also removes any interesting choices and waters down the differences between maestros.
I think another use of bardic inspiration and two to three additional conducting techniques is a nice fit.

Okay that would work pretty well! Thank you for the feedback

Will there be an update at all with regards to Xanathar's Guide?
Customer avatar

Hi Adam,

Yes, absolutely.
It'll get a 2.0 release along with another title to compliment it.
If you're interested, you can find more info on that in my comments below.

Hello, when "Epic Monster Manual" will be released? Will there be any update of the "Epic Characters"?
Customer avatar
Chris M February 21, 2018 6:13 pm UTC
Hey Francesca,

From my understanding epic monsters is being play tested since it is going to be released modular I believe from earlier comments. There's a large update in the works, that they're working on.

Customer avatar
Marc A February 22, 2018 2:42 pm UTC
Hi Francesca,

Yes, Epic Characters will receive a major update simultaneously to the release of the first "Epic Monsters".
It won't be called Epic Monsters though, as it will include much more than just monsters.
There'll be some lower CR monsters as well, but it will also include monsters with CRs above 40. Developing a system for that and playtesting it requires a ton of effort though.

There'll be over 100 statblocks, 14 of them being CR 30 or above.
There'll also be five deities, complete with statblocks and everything. Fancy killing some gods? They'll be quite deadly even for a full party of level 30 characters.
It will also include some new character options such as archetypes, feats, and spells.

As for a release date: I was hoping for about now, but changing creative direction, art acquisition, and some illness has caused it to be postponed a bit.
The good news is, that a lot of the groundwork for the next two titles is already...See more

Would one of those gods be Tharizdun? I have some players doing elemental evil and I had an idea of having them get to epic by traversing the elemental planes and eventually fighting Tharizdun, since the cults are connected to him as the Elder Elemental Eye.
Customer avatar
Marc A February 27, 2018 1:08 pm UTC
Hi Jacob,

Tharizdun won't be included in the upcoming title, no.
Everything ties together thematically, but we're working on several more titles that have other themes.
I do want to include him somewhere down the line.

Tharizdun is among the most powerful entities out there though. He would likely be a deadly encounter for a full party of level 30 adventurers. Caution is advised :)

Jacob W February 27, 2018 2:44 pm UTC
Aye! It could be difficult for them! But I think its a an epic climax! Thank you for your response though! I look forward to seeing what epic monsters await and laughing maniacally as I unleash them. GEHAHAHA!

Hi Marc how are u? I have a question regarding de epic characters book. Will u update it and include the options available now such as for ex Xanathars?
Customer avatar
Chris M February 21, 2018 1:16 pm UTC
Hey Mircea,

So Marc is working on an update at the moment that should include both Xanthar’s and UA content as well as any updates for the base stuff.

Hope this helps,

Customer avatar
Marc A February 22, 2018 2:25 pm UTC
Hi Mircea,

I'm very well, thank you! Very busy though :)
And yes, much like Chris mentions, the upcoming update will include both XGtE, UA material that wasn't covered in XGtE, and general updates for all the base classes and their archetypes.
Having gathered feedback over the past two years has allowed for some refining.

General Points to make:
I dont like inserting d20 into the ability dice. d20 is for the luck and the narrative of the story because its too swingy.
I think its would be more efficient to add spellcasting charts for classes. "also to help half and quarter casters". and maybe adding a total spell casting chart for multi classing.

other fighting base classes should gain an extra attack at some point

The Bard and Fighter are too strong.

cleric balance is all over the place.

Why the druids is the lamst Epic class?
Monstrous Wild Shape Size limit unneeded . Lost opportunity to add All monstrous and Elementals maybe plants.
Druidic versatility is Meh. I see what its going for but its not working.
Unhindered Beast Spells useless and redundant.
One with Nature is .... I dont know I feel its not enough or out of place.

Monk 30 level is ruthlethly the weaks capstone apility. and the wording is...See more

Hi Ahmed,

Here are some tips which should help improve the quality of the feedback you are giving.

"Other fighting base classes should gain an extra attack at some point"
Why? If you are going to suggest they get an extra attack to Marc (the creator), you need to give a balancing/flavour reason as to why.

"The Bard and Fighter are too strong"
How are they too strong? Again you need to specify how they are too strong, otherwise Marc won't know.

"Cleric balance is all over the place"
How is it all over the place? Like the two points above, this is not descriptive enough.

I do agree that Druid needs improvement, but the design decision to stick with only Large Beast forms is there for a reason, which Marc has stated below in the comments.
Otherwise, you need to state why "Druidic versatility is Meh" instead of "I see what its going for but its not working". Same goes with One...See more

Hi Ahmed,

I do want to take all criticism seriously and work things out with the community.
However, much like Hayden suggests, there isn't a lot to actually work with.
That being said, I'll have a look at all your points and see if I can discern what you mean.

In any case, thank you for voicing your opinion.
Also thank you, Hayden, for chiming in!

As you wish. I wanted to keep the feedback short and shed the light on the troublesome parts.

1) other fighting classes Extra attack:
If we see a pattern in the progression of Fighter and other classes. most of them get the extra attack at the same level of 5`th and they stop there the fighter continue. they get to have Half of the total number of attacks that the fighter get.
This will also make the other fighter classes feels that they are contributing as much of the fighter rather than see the fighter does 12 attack in one round while they can do 2. and watch wither these 2 attacks gonna hit or no.
The reasonable thing is to give the the additional extra attack at level 23 rather than buff there attack for When if hit.
I mean why the heck the Warlock get a third attack at level 21 as an invocation ? it should be set to 23 just as the invocation for the extra attack was set at 5`th.
The bard college of valor and college of swords should also be getting a third attack....See more

Hey Marc,
Wanted to start off by saying that this is amazing, so thank you for creating it. I was using it for my druid and I had a couple of questions. With the Unhindered Beast Spells feature, what does that add that the second half of the Archdruid feature doesn't already grant? Additionally, does the Monstrosity Wild Shape feature limit you only to Large monstrosities or does it allow smaller sizes as well?
If you could clear those up for me, I'd really appreciate it.
Thank you,
Customer avatar
Hayden Q February 11, 2018 5:39 am UTC
Hey Jesse,
By looking at the wording of both Unhindered Beast Spells and Archdruid, Unhindered Beast Spells is the same as Archdruid except for the fact that it also includes Monstrosity Forms into the equation. With your second question, it seems like Monstrosity Forms can only be large, but Beast Forms can be any size within the rule limits. So I guess the takeaway from this is Epic Druid considers Monstrosity and Beast Forms to be two different entities.
Hope that helps,
Customer avatar
Marc A February 11, 2018 9:42 pm UTC
Hi Jesse,

Currently, Unhindered Beast Spells just enables you to do the same in monstrosity form, which is really only of relevance to the moon druid. In the next update, the feature is replaced with something useful for all druid circles.

As for Monstrous Wild Shapes, the intention is that the monstrosity can only be Large in size.
The reason for this is really because the larger monstrosities generally resemble beasts the most.
Medium sized monstrosities, for example, are often very humanoid in nature, and it seems out of place for a druid to suddenly change into a doppelganger or a medusa.

Also thank you Hayden for chiming in. Beast and Monstrosity forms are very much considered different entities, yes.
Customer avatar
Ahmed Y February 19, 2018 4:53 am UTC
The druid's ability is really lackluster its considerably weaker against all other classes. and it heavily leaning on the CotM.
and the wording is not great too. so if someone turned into a spellcasting monstrosity they would have unlimited casting. and the size limit is useless. plenty of monstrosities are humanoid or freaky not beast related.

Hey Marc,

Sorry to be a pain but I have a group of 20-30 people hungry for the update and I said I would ask the question. Is there any indication of a release date for the 2.0 update? I know you said hopefully around February, just hoping you may have a date in mind. If not, I understand that and I'll tell the hyenas to calm down! lol.

Thanks again for all your great work!

Hi Chris,

Thank you for your kind words!
And no worries, I welcome any questions you might have.
As for the update, we're aiming for a simultaneous release with the first "expansion" to so to speak. It'll include lots of monsters, locations, new character options, etc.
We're a little behind schedule though.

Long story short, I can't give you an exact date. I'd also rather postpone a month than publish something I'm not happy with. I want it to be the absolute best I can make it and I don't want to let anyone down.
We're restructuring quite a few things, re-evaluating a lot of the existing material based on community feedback, and adding lots of new stuff.
I'm still hoping for a February release though, but as I said: we're a little behind schedule.
I'm sorry I can't be more helpful!

I just recently got on twitter as well, so if you want to get updates there, feel free to follow me: @dnd5eoss

Well I have loved his book since it first came onto the guild and will finally be getting a chance to use it soon. I've been delaying it slightly in hopes of getting the Epic monsters book to go with the campaign idea i'm planning but my friends are getting anxious so until it's out I will have to settle for a similar supplement. I'll update you on How it plays and hopefully when Your manual plays out My players will have some real epic level practice to bring to their new foes.
Customer avatar
Marc A February 01, 2018 9:38 am UTC
Hi Lisa,

Thank you for saying so, that means a lot!

As for epic monsters, I can tell you that I have more than one in the pipeline. They'll be several smaller ones, instead of one massive tome. Hopefully, once it gets going, I'll be able to publish a new one every 3 months or so.
They'll include more than just monsters though. There'll be locations, races, archetypes, spells, and feats as well. And of course a few deities.
And I'm working on a progression system for levels 30+. Sort of a build-a-deity system, which would pretty much be the only place to go after hitting level 30.

All in all, there should be lots of new things to get into. I just hope it's worth the wait :)

Hey Marc! My roommate bought this and has been showing them to me and I love them!!! I was wondering if you will ever do an update for the new Xanathar stuff? I have a hexblade warlock in a party I'm dming for and I want to bring them up to epic to use your stuff because its just so well made. I was also wondering if you had any ideas for the Matt Mercer bloodhunter class or the gunslinger or college of the maestro subclasses?

Hi Jacob,

That's awfully kind of you to say with all the great stuff here on the guild. Thank you so much.

Regarding your question, Hayden is right, I'm working on an update that will include everything from XGtE.
As for bloodhunter, gunslinger, and maestro, I do have some ideas, but they're just ideas for now. I'd love to flesh them out and include them as well!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
