A young boy befriends an extra-planar construct that has mysteriously appeared at his family’s farm. Once the boy finds out that other creatures are coming to take it back home, he comes up with a plan to get help from the party to save his new friend.  A 4-6 hour adventure for characters level 1-4.

Updated 7/28/18 - New maps, handouts, and now available as a full Fantasy Grounds module!

A Boy and his Modron is a 5th Edition module created a in style similar to earlier published planar campaigns, formatted similar to Adventurer's League modules.  It is heavy on roleplaying and contains unique encounters designed to make the PCs an important part of the story.

Due to the difficulty of portraying some of the encounters and NPCs accurately and fun, it is recommended that this module be run by experenced dungeon masters.

OK, is it just me, or is the lair actions lacking from Triazinromas' stat block? I couldn't find anything in the Monstrous Manual either.. other than that, this was a great read and I'm looking forward to playing it next month!

Sorry, the lair actions are listed in the main module, I forgot to add them to his stat block at the end. I'll include it in the next update, thanks!

I ran this campaign with 4 of my friends. They are slow players, so in one session we only managed to get the wolf encounter done. After this we talked, and my players came up with the plan to kill the kid. Because they thought the "cube creature" was a oozem and the kid was bound to demons. What should I do? Should I prevent them to kill the kid, or should they be able to kill the kid and thus and the campaign. The alignment of the characters are all Chaotic Neutral or Neutral Good.

Well, that is a new one. If they are newer players, you may want to ask them to read over the alignment rules. The alignment rules are a big part of the game and in place to keep things like this from happening. Although it may sound funny to the players, if a character has good in his alignment there's no way he would bring himself to kill a kid without hard evidence that he's in league with demons. If they honestly believe the kid is evil, or go through with it against their alignment, then so be it. Do a google search for 'The Great Modron March' and see the implications to their homeland if they have completely mistaken the motives of the main characters. Good luck!

Thank you for your reply. I now have a better idea of what to do now. I think I am going to point more evidence to 31^2 is a robot of some sort. And with a bit of luck the minds of the party will have been changed. I am going to run this further later on the day. Hopefully everything goes well.

So, I have no idea how permissions and things work when it comes to community published material on the DM's guild but I would absolutely love to run this with my group. The catch is that we are putting out our sessions in podcast format soon and I am not sure if I would be allowed to run this module on the podcast. Obviously credit and information on where to acquire this publication would be provided in our episode description as well as verbally mentioned, but I would like to know what your stance on this is.

If not, it's not a big deal at all. I just really love the whole story that this module presents.

Thanks for the feedback! I don't know if there's any sort of issue with DMsguild on using these modules in podcasts, but personally i'd love to see you run it! Please let me know the podcast and i'll check it out.

I want to say it's at the author's discretion, but don't quote me on that. We are in the process of recording now so it may be a month or so before we go live, but I will make sure to link you to the episode once it's published and point people to this module to donate and download. Thanks for putting this together and for getting back to me!

I like the plotline. I think my group will enjoy the humor. I noticed that the Stat blocks for the npcs have not been included. When do you plan on adding them? I can do my own but I would prefer to use what you had in mind. I plan on running it shortly.

I'd like everyone that's run this to let me know how they feel about the combat balance (with as little spoilers as possible). The encounters were built with the hard xp budgets since most fights only happened infrequently. The fights on pg 14 and 18 seemed tough, and the games i've played were all a couple of crits away from a possible TKO. Of course let me know any other issues you find to make the module even better!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
