A medical shipment to the swampy town of Strade's Gallows takes a turn for the eccentric when the party happens across enigmatic shrimp-men who begin to worship them as gods. Can the party solve the mystery of Strade's Gallows' ailment, or will their new disciples botch it all up?

"Fishing for Gods in Strade's Gallows" is a Dungeons and Dragons 5e module designed for 3-5 players at levels 2-3. This module features NPC dynamics where cordial manners and a polite smile matter just as much as sword-swinging prowess. Original monster entries and dungeon maps can be found in the appendices.

Hey, I've just started a champaign with this adventure, and last session my players had just entered Strade (I added something prequel-ish on the way there to level them up from 1 to 2 :) )

Reading through everything a second time now, and making notes about the city, and I think I might have spotted a naming error(?)

In the first half of the book, one of the watch-members are referred to as "Edgar Halfwistle," (p6) but later he's reffered to as "Edgar Windhowler." (p19 and out) I thought Halfwistle might be a nickname, until I read again about the Halfwhistle's house (p9) who seems to have no connection to him. I think I'll just go for Windhowler, just wanted to check if this is indeed an error, or maybe there's two Edgars or something? :)

The idea behind this module and the way it plays out makes it one of the best adventures I have ever seen. It has so many subtle-and-not-so-subtle themes that carry through from beginning to end. It is so weird and yet very grounded in D&D tropes, and then paints a vivid and moving story. In a lot of ways it feels like a very modern and excellent N1 Against Cult of the Reptile God. The maps and encounters are just genius. What is especially great is that there is a mix of mystery, investigation, role playing, and combat. Often, the combats rely on previous roleplaying and it was easy to make the antagonists/combats memorable and full of personality. On a scale of 1-5, its plot and adventure ranks a 6.

My only issue with the adventure is its organization. It took me a few times of reading it to understand what the heck is going on and what was important. A plot summary at the beginning, timeline of what happens when and why, a "dramatis personae" including the various factions,...See more

Hey all,

I'm running the module fishing for Gods in Strade's Gallows and really enjoying it! I have a problem though. On page 29,for area 61 it doesn't tell me where the northern path leads to/from. Also lower in this section is a typo about the egg room, but that's fairly obvious after looking at the maps =)

I emailed the author and it sounds like he is working on a solution, or I may have misread something, but I wanted to know if anyone else ran into this problem and what your solution was?

Thanks!

I've discovered that this adventure runs more like a small campaign. I'm in the process of updating it, but it can take anywhere from 3-5 sessions to run, I believe.

I agree that it runs like a small campaign. And a lot will depend on your players and the choices they make. It's got a sort of "small sandbox" feel to it. If they follow up on every lead and side quest it could go for a while. If they just head straight to the end, it could be over a lot more quickly though. We are on our 3rd session, and I think we'll finish it in our 4th session (we do 4 to 5 hour sessions).

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
