Adventure Template For OpenOffice/LibreOffice

ADD TO WISHLIST >

I downloaded the official Adventure Template with the intention of converting it to ODT format for the community. I may have gotten a little wild while doing it.

Simply get the Andada, Andada SC, and Open Sans font sets from FontSquirrel and have fun! I hope you enjoy using it as much as I enjoyed making it.

Thanks for looking!

Very handy. I just uploaded my first adventure product, which I made using this. It took me a bit to figure out how to use it.

I especially like the fact that it uses free & freely available fonts.

I imagine there might be a way to have macros or something that would make adding or updating specific content chunks easier. But I'm not going to do that, LOL.

Thank you very much for this. It's proven invaluable in my first effort to publish an adventure to the DM's Guild, so thank you very much Dale! Fantastic to be able to use Open Office.

Is there a reason this template does not utilize the Gyre-Bonum or Junction fonts, which I thought the template was suppose to have? This template does open the most cleanly out of all the packs I have tried opening, but I'm slightly confused about what exactly I'm suppose to be using.

The official ones open in broken styles, which could be fixed by tinkering, but it's hard to tell when I am even fixing something or if it needs it at all. This pack seemingly does not face format issues, but it doesn't include all of the same formats as the other documents?

Is there even a requirement to use one of these format guides, or are these just provided to ease making a document which looks decent?

I tried to stick to strictly open source fonts that can be legally downloaded for free. That being said, I can offer little to no excuse as to why I did not utilize styles to make the use of this document easier; I've always copied and pasted formats rather than using styles and that's just me being lazy in pre-prep work.

Yeah, this document is meant mostly to help OpenOffice/LibreOffice users make decent looking documents. I did little to no work in providing documentation for its use and I do not condemn anyone who judges me for that.

Hopefully this isn't a stupid question. I need to add a map how would I add an image to the template?

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but even if the text is formatted like the adventure template for word, style are not defined. For example the paragraph in the the first page under the subtitle is formatted with font Andada, but the his style definition (Intro body) is still defined with font Cambria. Another example "Heading 1" is formatted with charactere Andada size 20, but "Heading 1" style is defined with font "Gill Sans SemiBold;Segoe UI Semibold" size 18.

Noob question if you don't mind. How do I change the colors/style of the green lines in the footer and under the heading style?

Not a noob question at all.

Just place your cursor on the text associated with the lines (just under the line in the page footer and just over the line for the header style text). Then bring up Paragraph format box (Main MenuFormatParagraph). The Borders tab will give you all the options you have to change those lines to your taste.

Feel free to experiment to your taste. And please do feel free to ask any further questions as they may arise.

FWIW, this imported into Google Docs pretty cleanly.

I never thought of that possible need! Thank you so much for pointing that out. If there are tweaks that do need to be made, please let me know. Now that you brought it up, a Google Docs conversion does sound like a needed thing.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
