5 Minute Workday Presents: Prestigious Monsters

PLAYTEST DRAFT!

Introducing the 4 level lycanthrope prestige class and the 8 level vampire prestige class.

Mauled by a werewolf? Drained dry by Count Strahd? Don't tear up your character sheet in despair, just take levels in these two new prestige classes.

Disclaimer: The contents of this document are still being tweaked and need another set of eyes (or two or three). Some of the features need to be evaluated for balance and given some extra thought.

But balancing something as funky as these classes – especially the vampire – requires a little extra effort and more thought than one person can provide.

So I’m making these classes available to the public for free. When I’m satisfied with the result, I’ll update the files and jack up the price to my usual 50 cents.

Please put all comments in the discussion section, and together we can make some great classes!

Are you still developing this? If so, it seems really well designed to me. The only thing that really stands out is that the vampire has no access to healing until level 6 when their XXX attack starts to heal them. This is a result of their creature type becoming Undead, which makes them immune to most healing spells in the game (the only ones that will work, off the top of my head, are Aura of Vitality and Regeneration.) This would be fine, but the fact that at level 5 onwards they have no way of completely avoiding sunlight damage means they are taking guaranteed damage every round but are totally unable to heal.

Well, I had a huge response typed up, but then the system ate my comment. So here goes again-

Werewolf
I'd say let them have unarmed strike as a bonus action in hybrid form. Its based on Rage, so the chance at extra damage makes sense, and the minotaur (granted, a UA article) gets the same thing at a d10.

I'm not sure how I feel about their ability score boost being tied to the "parent" lycanthrope, given that it only really comes up definitively at level 4- every other instance is "Choose whatever is appropriate." Suggestion would be "+1 Wisdom, and +1 to Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution, whichever is appropriate."

Vampire
I feel like Necrology is front-loaded, yes, but so is the weaknesses- and they sort of have to be, don't they? They're all VERY integral, iconic abilities of vampires. I think that's fine.

Is it intended that Charming Gaze can be used an unlimited number of times?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
