Adventure: Leomund's Misplaced Manor

Home is what you make of it.

Leomund's Misplaced Manor is a D&D 5th Edition adventure designed to give players a classic dungeon crawl while they explore the confines of the Manor and unravel the mystery of its last owner. Uniquely, at the end of the adventure the location itself becomes the reward, along with any new allies the characters have made along the way and any treasure they find.

This standalone adventure can be inserted at any point in a campaign when you wish to reward the player characters with a permanent, somewhat mobile base of operations. Finding the Deed to the Manor can be an adventure or reward in its own right and the events in Leomund's Misplaced Manor can lead to still more adventures.

Sessions: 1-2

Players: 4-5

Character Level: 5-7

Includes:

  • Introduction and notes on personalizing the adventure for your campaign
  • Room descriptions with read-aloud text and instructions for encounters
  • Conclusion with notes on expanding the adventure and the Manor
  • Appendices with new monster stat blocks, maps, and treasure

Hello! I've been playing around with the map-making program, Inkarnate, and I made a map for my players inspired by your adventure (with a few minor changes). I linked your adventure in the map description (if you prefer that removed, just let me know.)

Hey - I am going to run this at a Con. I have access to a plotter, and I would love to print off a huge map for my players. Can I get a hold of the map without the GM key?

Just purchased this for my group to run through this coming Sunday as a one off game. Would you please provide the manor layout without the room numbers? Experimenting with Foundry VTT and would like to see how this looks with fog of war. I could redraw it I guess, but that's just more time spent evaluating, and I am lazy :) Thanks!

I'm considering this module for a special session D&D event at a convention I'm going to, but I only have about three hours for my session. Would it be possible to do this in three hours or mod it so that it fits within three hours without destroying the story?

Caitlin, if you want to make it through the entire adventure with its heart intact, I think you could easily skip the encounters in sections 3 and 4, and you could perhaps play down the specifics of the bedrooms. These elements can always creep back up at a later time once the players have solidified their ownership over the Manor.

Another time saver could be narrating the encounter in section 9 to reveal the relevant information immediately.

And of course you also want to make sure the party doesn't burn an entire hour faffing around with where to summon the Manor in the first place (just this once, let them move the entrance soon after the initial placement).

I hope that helps. Happy adventuring!

Anything you'd recommend if the players prevent the servant from pulling the levers?

It can be tough to get paranoid players to take the adventure hook, especially if they've been betrayed by NPCs before. Perhaps the servant could drop some hints about wanting to show them the rest of the manor? He could even outright ask for help but say he doesn't know exactly what is going on. The deed makes the manor their rightful property and the servant could apologize that it's a "fixer-upper."

Hey I really liked this! I liked the way that the adventure shows the corruption throughout the house. I ran this for my family as an abandoned space base for a super hero that got corrupted by a villain. I took your original design and made it spacey. Super fun keep up the good work!

So good! I downloaded this as my first DM session over a years ago and now they use the Manor as their home base wherever they go. I did make some revisions and expanded the adventure and also created new maps as well. I would love to send you a copy of it to see what you think.

Hi, i am not very familiar with of how the dm guild translation works.
I am translating this adventure in Italian for my players and friends, i'm also doing a remake of the maps in higher quality as i am a bit of a photoshopper myself.
When i'm done, can i send you the finished product ? Don't know if you can put on a translated version (of course by your name, just put me as a translator in the italian version if you want).

By the way, i love the adventure.

Matt J,

Thanks so much for your interest! I'm not sure what you mean by "use this in my campaign blog" but I would prefer you use a link to the Dungeon Masters Guild rather than posting any of my content directly on your site. All of my content so far is Pay What You Want so any of your players who need the info can download it here for free and it still registers as a sale. This helps creators know that their content is being enjoyed and it motivates us to create even more for the community.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
