Now with a custom character sheet specifically for this book, created by Guilherme Pantoja!

ANNIVERSARY UPDATE!

So, this book was released a little over 2 years ago. In the interim, I have gathered as much criticism and playtests as I could manage, and poured over everything that had been submitted. I then took a focused approach to this book to incorporate as much of the feedback as possible, especially for player options.

The focus of this book was always that the player options presented herein would be able to be dropped into any normal 5th edition DnD game, without any special consideration given to characters made with the options from this book. While I think the original release was close, it wasn't quite there, and there were a few issues that stuck out that remained unbalanced.

I have taken everything and rewritten everything, and while most of the player options will look familiar to those who own the previous version of this book, there will definitely be balance fixes so that you can take a lacer, a samsari, or any other option presented in this book, and drop it into your normal game.

In addition to the revisions made to the previous material, there have been many additions as well. There are new subclasses presented for the fighter and rogue, allowing them to learn some elemental powers and maneuvers. Each element's form list has also been increased to 50, rounding the number of forms presented in the book to over 200!

I can't express my appreciate enough for those who have helped in every stage of this process, including those who simply downloaded the book and ran games with it. The feedback I was able to gather was invaluable, and it really makes me happy to hear that the work I put into this book wasn't wasted.

So get out there and control the elements, and save your world!

Original preface:

Want an entire setting book to add elemental warriors to your world?

A blast a fire, a rush of wind, the roar of water, the rumble of stone.

The elements have always been a fantastic space to explore creatively for gamers. This book seeks to add all the elemental options you'd ever need for your 5e games.

This book is 178 pages long, and includes everything you need to set a game in the Forgotten Realms under the watchful eye of the Incarnate, a powerful being who can wield all four elements. The contents of this book include:

5 new races. The elemental races were born from the union of genasi and ancient barbarian tribes. They have since become diluted, but elemental blood still flows through their veins. Also included is the obake, a race of animal-like creatures from the Spirit World.

2 new classes. The lacer and the samsari are both elemental warriors, but approach the elements in vastly different ways. Lacers are fighters, using fire, wind, water, and earth to pummel their foes into submission. Samsari, by contrast, are more spiritual, more enlightened.

5 new subclasses. In addition to the five subclasses present for the lacer, and the three subclasses presented for the samsari, five new subclasses are given for classes from the Player's Handbook. Barbarians can follow the Path of Elemental Fury, gaining powerful elemental abilities. Fighters can follow the martial archetype of the Pro-Lacer, pummeling their enemies with elemental maneuvers. Monks have two new subclasses to join; the Ki Blocker is a wise warrior who learns to hinder their opponents by blocking ki paths in the body, and the Shihan Warrior learns to use special armor and weapons to be a protector of the weak and innocent. Finally, the rogue can become a Triple Threat, gaining elemental abilities and working in tandem with allies.

6 new backgrounds. Six unique backgrounds are presented in this book, representing both the feared and respected (bounty hunters, town guards), and the common heroes (air sanctuary, polar clan, the vast swamp, and the vegetable merchant).

New armor, weapons, and equipment. While all weapons and tools from the Player's Handbook are completely applicable to the world of Toril, new options are presented here for those who wish to specialize. New weapons like the boomerang and hook sword are listed, as well as new tools like the gemmanite ring, a powerful item which can bind and eventually engulf creatures in pure crystal candy.

Over a dozen new feats. New options for lacers of specific elements, giving you even more unique flair for your character. Learn to lace lava, metal, lightning, wood, and more elements!

200+ lacing forms. Similar to spells, lacing forms allow you mastery and control over the elements. Over 200 new forms are presented to give unique and powerful options for your character.

New setting rules and tips. New optional rules are presented, allowing players greater variability and versatility by allowing your elemental powers to be affected by weather and cosmic events. The ability to play as the Incarnate is laid out, allowing a player to become an extremely powerful master of all four elements. In addition, tips are given for DMs who wish to add lacers to other games, to help guide the DM in what it means to have a lacer in a campaign, and ideas for how to implement them fluidly.

36 new monsters. 36 completely new monsters are presented to challenge new and old players alike. The creatures cover the entire spectrum of Challenge Ratings, and can be tweaked for almost any type of encounter. In addition, a number of more minor miscellaneous creatures and NPC stat blocks are presented which can be quickly dropped into any game.

History of lacing in the Forgotten Realms. This book fills in gaps in the timeline of the Forgotten Realms, showing how lacing magic was created, how it reached its height, and ultimately, how it began to fall, until very few lacers remain.

This book is over 170 pages of vetted and critiqued content, and has been checked for balance in comparison to other 5e options, including those presented in the Player's Handbook. As much or as little of this book as you like can be added to any campaign of Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition, with no worry needing to be given over power levels or exceptional strength.

This has been a project I've worked on for over 5 years, and it's just incredible to finally see it come to fruition. So I really, really hope you enjoy it, and happy gaming!

- Alex Tanner

If you enjoy this, check out my other work!

Tarocchi. This class uses a deck of 52 playing cards in order to fund their magic spells, and requires you to play with a deck of cards as your character does!

Totemist. This class summons wooden idols with powerful magical abilities that affect the area around them. Answer the call of nature that best suits you to animate your idols to battle for you, boost you own fighting ability, or add the ability to cast spells alongside your totems!

Wayfarer. This is a full spellcasting class that gains the ability summon a powerful companion called an amicus. This creature is completely customizable, giving you an incredible amount of versatility in a single class!

I bought this book years ago. I remember I loved it. The new Avatar adaptation came out and reminded me of this book. I read it again and it is still great. I wanted to check your stuff for more things like it, but it looks like you haven't made anything else for "Incarnate". With the arrival of the new Netflix adaptation, do you think you'll ever make more stuff for it? Like an adventure module, more monsters, a more complete campaign setting or something similar? Just tell me anything so I can throw my money at you.

I really appreciate the kind words! Unfortunately I don't have anything else in the works right now, life has caught up to me. I had a new book of classes in the works, but with One DnD coming out later this year, I've been debating if I should wait until the release and release them as 1DnD classes. But again, I really appreciate the nice words and I'm glad I was able to make something you enjoyed!

Say, have you considered adding a Roll20 version of this? Being able to use the Charactermancer with Lacers would be a major time-saver for making Lacer characters.

Hi, I'm sorry but I don't know, nothing about the product has been changed recently. My only thought is that you'll need to put a number into the pay-what-you-want box, you should be able to put in a 0 and add it to your cart. If that doesn't work you may need to contact tech support for the site. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful!

I was using a fillable character sheet PDF and I was copy pasting the lacer features so I would have easy reference if I forget specifics, I do this with every character I make, and I noticed an odd quirk. Certain letters typically F, when I attempted to copy them would not paste. To give an example let's say I try to copy and paste the word "Proficiency", when I paste go to paste it what I end up pasting will be "Pro". There would be nothing pasted after that, if I wanted to finish the word I would either have to type it out or avoid copying the F and type the F in later. Do you have any idea why this happens? It's nothing serious so I'm not asking for a fix but it is strange and admittedly annoying. I tested it with several fillable pdfs including the lacer form and had the same problem, so it is definitely the setting book. Maybe my Incarnate PDF is just weird? I don't know adobe or formatting so I really have no clue whats going on here.

Hey Bruce, I'm really sorry to hear that about the copy/pasting. Unfortunately I don't have much I can offer in the way of a solution, as I'm not really an expert on Adobe either. They should just be standard fillable forms, so I can't really say why that would be happening or have any ideas for a fix. Sorry about that!

Fantastic book, super quality work! Quick clarification regarding the Shihan monk. Silk Threads specifically allows Martial Arts to apply while wearing armor, and specifically disallows Unarmored Defense, but it makes no mention of whether Unarmored Movement is supposed to work. Are Shihan monks supposed to have the extra movement?

CREATOR
Thanks for the kind words! Yes that should be specific, but Silk Threads is not meant to preclude a monk's extra movement. The monk should still gain their extra movement while wearing light armor and wielding a shield.

Love the book. Me and my group are running a return of the red lotus campaign set 30 years after legend of Korra. Been going almost 6 months now supper Fun. I did have a question I came across.

The airlacing 1st lvl form "Protection of the East" It appears to be a reskin of the shield spell but it has a range of 30 and is concentration and has a spell time of 1 hour. However like shield it can only be cast on self and lasts 1 round.

Was there a reason for the range and concentration?

Hey Caleb, thanks for the kind words, and I'm glad you and your group are having fun! Those were an oversight in the editing process unfortunately, but you can safely ignore them and treat the form you listed as you would the Shield spell.

Good morning, I absolutely love the book and so do my players but we have a player who is confused and 2 earth lacing forms. Rock blast and mountain strike, why is mountain strike a 2nd level lacing when it far weaker then rock blast?

Hey Chris, thanks for the kind words! As to your question, it looks like an oversight from me which hasn't been pointed out before, but mountain strike should be the 1st-level form, and rock blast should be the 2nd-level form, instead of how it is now. It looks like it just slipped past me in editing, but you are absolutely correct about them. Thanks for pointing it out!

How exactly does the Elemental Dig feature work for the rogue? Is it like an opportunity attack, or does the target just take the damage
Reply

The dig simply adds extra damage whenever a target is hit with a weapon attack. You do use your reaction to use the dig, but you only add the dig's damage as well as your Sneak Attack if the target qualifies to be hit by a Sneak Attack. Thanks for checking it out!

Hi, I was wondering if there was an updated module for the anniversary edition? I downloaded the one located here (https://www.dmsguild.com/product/211872/Incarnate-Last-of-the-Lacers--Fantasy-Grounds-module?src=by_author_of_product) however, I'm experiencing a glitch during the character creation where I'm not able to select an element to master, nor any spells. I thought it was strange, so I figured I try asking here to see if anyone could help lol. Thanks in advance!

Hi Jeremy, while the fantasy grounds module has not been updated, this is the first I'm hearing of the character creation not working. I've never used fantasy grounds so I'm afraid I'm unable to help, hopefully someone can. Updating the module is something that's been on my radar for a while, but since I've never used fantasy grounds myself, my options are to learn it and how to write it, or to pay someone else to do it, and both have pros and cons unfortunately. I hope you're able to work out your issue and enjoy the game!

I'm running a game using your material and had a question concerning the Lacing Initiate feat and the Pro Lacer subclass for the fighter. Both grant the player the Elemental Strike feature from the Lacer class. Does this include the Bonus Action attack and the change in damage die with increase in level (as shown in the Elemental Strike column of the Lacer Table in the class description)?

Hi Troy, thanks for checking it out! The intent is that you get everything listed in the ”Elemental Strike” feature listed for the lacer, which includes the bonus action attack but does not include increases to your elemental strike's damage unless you actually take levels in the lacer class. Hope this helps!

love the module, it solidifies alot of ideas I've personally been floating around for a year or so now. And of course the excellent source material. However while reading I of course consider balance and min/max-ability, one in particular is sharpshooter. By classifying elemental strike as a ranged weapon it qualifies for all benefits, including the bonus damage, which doesn't seem to power creepy just a little strange. The real area of concern would be the +10 benefit and the stinger feat (which i really like btw.) in the case of a dart you could throw 8 darts with 2 attacks, but modifier only applied 1 per attack. would you rule that +10 for each weapon or for the total attack, especially considering the -11 they'd be taking at that point? also I notice no-matter how many weapons are thrown, they may only strike 1 target per (attack.) Was that intentional or an oversight? I understand that almost all of these would be up to the dm of the current game, but with you being the creator id love an "official"...See more

Hi noah, thanks for checking it out! To answer your question, the fact that the darts all land on the same target (per attack) was intentional, as allowing that many extra attacks would start to bog down the game quickly. This way, no matter how many darts you choose to throw, they hit a single target, and your modifier is only added once, which keeps the game moving for everyone. As for using something like Sharpshooter, it would apply per attack, not per dart, regardless of how many darts you choose to throw for the attack.

Question, I get air, water, and earth dealing bludgeoning damage but wouldn't fire elemental strikes deal fire damage? Sorry cause rules as written basically states all basic elemental strikes deal bludgeoning damage including fire lacing... I don't see how fire bludgeons a person.

Hi Marcel, thanks for checking it out! Basically the idea is that it is a quick burst, so while the fire bolt is hot, the target is essentially being smashed with a force of fire that hits you more than it burns you.

However, if that's not your cup of tea, feel free to switch it around! It wouldn't unbalance anything for the fire bolt to do fire damage, or to change air to thunder damage and water to cold damage. Definitely feel free to make minor changes such as these if it better supports your character concept or playstyle!

Hi, the Elemental Strike usage is not clear for me or my players.

How can it be used? As an action? As a bonus action too?
Can you use your action to use it once, and then your bonus action to use it again?
Does it benefit from your main stat modifier?

I have read the relevant paragraphs in page 24 a couple of times but still don't fully understand it.

Hi, I'm glad you reached out! Basically, the elemental strike acts as a unique weapon, so think of it how you would a weapon. To answer your questions:

1. When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can choose to attack with your elemental strike instead of a physical weapon you are holding. When you attack with your elemental strike or a weapon as your action, you can make an elemental strike as a bonus action, according to the last bullet point of the feature.
2. Yes. Starting at 5th level, you can use it twice as your action, since you're taking the Attack action to attack with it, and you can then make another elemental strike as a bonus action.
3. As a ranged weapon, you use your Dexterity modifier for the attack and damage rolls, although the third bullet point of the feature allows you to use Strength instead of Dexterity.

Basically just think of it as a unique weapon that the feature gives you the ability to wield, and hopefully that'll make it make more sense....See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
