After reading the comments, I understand why the product is now served as a scanned PDF instead of a searchable / editable PDF. But those technical issues can likely be fixed, and the scanned version makes it impossible to search for certain characteristics.

On top of that, I find it interesting that neither of the two new Tomb of Annihilation backgrounds (Archaeologist and Anthropologist) are featured in this at all.

Gregory, thanks for your feedback.

I did consult with several people, including my workplace IT department, if there were any fixes to the problem they were aware of. Sadly, I couldn't make it happen.

You are correct - neither of the two new backgrounds are included in this document. The reason for that was timing. I had this on the DM's Guild a full week before the release of the book, and I didn't have access to those backgrounds. When I reload the document at the $100 mark, I plan on fixing a few problems I found with existing pregens where they don't align perfectly with the book, as well as adding a monk with one of the new backgrounds from the book.

Thanks for downloading, and if you donated to the PADS homeless shelter, thank you again!

I have tried to print these pre-gens for my store game. However, I keep getting 'this document cannot be printed' error. I have noticed that every pre-gen besides the Wizard is basically the wizard after you click on any box.

Thanks for letting me know of your problem. This product uses a PDF that includes form-fillable fields. There are compatibility issues if you open it in a browser. If you open it in updated Adobe Acrobat, you shouldn't experience any problems.

Just to make sure this is the case, I was able to replicate your error opening the file in Chrome. However, I was able to print from Acrobat just fine.

I hope that fixes your problem!

Tried printing this at home (on updated Acrobat Reader) and also at a professional print shop (Kinkos). This still could not be printed. Love the concept/product, but cannot print it. Please help.

I am looking at scanning a high quality PDF of the renders, and uploading that as a second file. They will lose their edit-ability, but they should be printable for those still unable to open them.

I just got back from Ziege Con (they were able to print and distribute them from the file), and I will work on that tomorrow.

Hello, Daniel.

I looked into potential causes and solutions for this. It appears to be a problem in how the editable pdf's are shared, a problem I hadn't seen before until now with any of my character sheets.

I have uploaded a quality scan of the character sheets. While these forms cannot be edited, you shouldn't experience the problems with bizarre sheets when printing. I apologize for any difficulties you might have experienced.

I think because you used the "s-word" in your description, this is the only entry that comes up when you search for it. You might want to remove it, or spell it s/u/r/r/o/g/a/t/e/s or something silly like that. Just a thought.

Thanks for the feedback, Michael! I would absolutely change it, but this is the language asked by AL Admins who I have spoken with - so I'll have to leave it. I apologize that it came up in the search for surrogates.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
