Legacy of Io: The Lost Bestiaries - Volume I

Suggested Price $1.99

UPDATE (9/25/16): Now available for PWYW, this updated version has enhanced artwork, recalculated statistics, streamlined formatting (in the style of volume 2), and fixes for a number of mathematical and typographical errors. Some dragons have also been tweaked or even totally redesigned to bring them more in line with their classical incarnations.

Dragons are as much a staple of the D&D game as swords and sorcery, and these fantastical beasts come in a myriad of shapes, sizes, and temperments. Some, like the Chromatic dragons, are wicked and cruel, while others, like the Metallics, are paragons of justice and good. They can be found in nearly every environment from the arctic wastes of the Great Glacier to the desert sands of Zakhara, and from the depths of the sea to the alien vistas of the outter planes.

Inside this volume, you will find 20 Rare Dragons culled from the forgotten history of Abeir-Toril, which can be found in a variety of regions ranging from sun-soaked jungle ruins to the lightless caverns of the Underdark. Whatever campaign you are playing in, there is sure to be many a monster within that can be dropped into any adventure.

Each dragon comes complete with a full write-up in the style of the Monster Manual, including full color illustrations, Lair Actions, Regional Effects, and game statistics for each of the four standard age categories.

That's over 80 stat blocks, all for the low price of $4.99 (less than $0.25 per dragon).

Also included, at no extra charge, are a selection of new action options, breath weapon variants, and innate spellcasting abilities for all dragons described in the Monster Manual. These are designed to make draconic encounters more fun and tactically engaging.

Finally, players who are interested in unlcoking the secrets of Draconic Magic may be interested in a small selection of new spells included (again, for no extra chage) in this document:

  • Acid Burst
  • Dazzling Ray
  • Enervation
  • Rimestorm,
  • Sandblast
  • Summon Monster
  • Vine Serpents
  • Wall of Iron
  • AND MANY MORE!

And, if you're not sure you'll need all of the material presented in this collection, you might be interested in purchasing only the content you intend to use in your campaign. Using the links below, you will find smaller collections ofmaterial from this volume, each including a UNIQUE sixth dragon, as an added bonus!

I was looking to buy this but noticed that there are a reported 96 pages in volume 1 and a total of 165 pages when combining the 6 individual component packs. Why the 69 page difference?! I guess covers and contents my account for at least 15 of those...

26p. Chromatic Dragons
27p. Metallic Dragons
27p. Fezzrrous Dragons
28p. Renegade Dragons
34p. Player Content Pack
23p. Bonus Dragon Compilation Pack

Each of the component packs includes a bonus sixth dragon that's not included in the full volume. All of those dragons are included in the bonus dragon compilation pack, though. So, if you buy the full volume as well as the compilation, you should get all the material. The individual packs are mostly for those who are only interested in a certain set of dragons, and don't necessarily want all of them.

I've added an updated version with bookmarks and a hyperlinked table of contents for easier navigation. I've also included a Printer Friendly version that's black and white with no pictures (I think).

As I understand it, both versions should appear when you buy this. If that's not the case, let me know, and I'll try to see what I screwed up.

Daniel - a head's up - the DMG staff have been taking down certain products that have titles matching WotC products. I'm not sure how close it has to be but I'd advise a bit of caution.

Thanks for the warning. Perhaps I should use a more unique name for the next one? What about "Draconomicon: The Lost Bestiaries?"

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
