Book of Beasts: Underdark Vault

ADD TO WISHLIST >
Suggested Price $2.00

This edition of the Book of Beasts centers on a number of creatures that come from the Underdark or could easily be encountered there.

Each of these monsters was chosen because it can easily be dropped into adventures in the Underdark, be used as an interesting one-off encounter, or employed by NPCs (or other monsters) as a guardian. They should be particularly useful to DMs running Out of the Abyss.

The monsters included here are:

  • Cave Fisher (CR 1)
  • Choker (CR 1/2)
  • Destrachan (CR 6)
  • Iron Defenders: Iron Cobra (CR 4),  Iron Defender (CR 2)
  • Kruthik: Kruthik Young (CR 1/4), Kruthik Adult (CR 1), Kruthik Hive Lord (CR 2)
  • Skeletal Tomb Guardian (CR 8)

That's 9 monsters in 9 pages!

Oh man, am I pleased with this! I already have minis for all of these except the cave fisher and I was sad to see none of them were included in the core books. All the stats look right to me. I can't wait to use them!

I used the 3 Kruthiks last night in a random Underdark encounter for my Rage of Demons campaign. Overall they worked great... but their attack values seemed very low (damage was fine, though). Looks like they just had Str mod added, with no prof bonus. In play, I found they worked much better swinging at +4 instead of the listed +2.

Glad you liked them! As for the attack ratings, I followed the guidelines in the DMG for creating monsters, but increasing the bonus a bit shouldn't make them unreasonable at all!

Price has been adjusted. I'm going to try and figure out a way to get something to those of you who paid the old price. It may be a week or so.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
