Igor's Challenge is a 3-4 hour, non-lethal, funhouse style dungeon.  It is a self-contained adventure that should fit into any campaign or serve as a one-shot adventure for any group.  The adventure can fit a party of any level and size with only minor adjustments.

Igor is an eccentric gnome inventor and retired adventurer renowned around the world.  He has sent out invitations to adventuring groups to come complete for his latest, greatest invention.  The competition will take place a few days hence in the village of Penthill and consist of a race through his specially created challenge-dungeon.

Igor's Challenge includes a unique magic item, a small village with locations and NPCs, an encounter and story with a legendary NPC (stat bloc provided), and a 33 room dungeon of traps, tricks, and puzzles.

This module has been featured on several different podcasts: the Hapless Heroes Podcast (twitter.com/haplessheroes), and OCD&D (twitter.com/OCDandD)

I don't know if I'm just dumb, but I have no idea as to how the last puzzle works.

I'm going to run it tonight, and I'm trepidacious about people going to the Loser's Room. I will have 4-6 players, and I'm worried that if some get sent to the Loser's Room they won't have as much fun. Can I have any players who end up there start into the rooms again?
I like the comment below where someone modified it so the Loser's Room was the slide landing in a very cold river. I don't want to send them 70 miles away, but if the river is close by, they can choose to re-enter the Challenge...
I'm also going to have them roll an "initiative" from the start so I can do the rounds of everyone even if they get separated.

This is one of my favorite modules to run. I love how every run is different!

I was hoping to get in contact with the creator to get their permission to run this on public servers using the One More Multiverse application. I've almost built the entire thing in the application. Super hyped to run it again but with pixel art!

I've run this adventure with two groups now as a one-shot to give the regular DMs a break and both games were fantastic. It was brilliant to see how the different players approached the same rooms differently and it was nice to give them a challenge that wasn't about fighting to really think about their characters and resources and how to move forward. I couldn't do the final dice based task due to playing remotely but just sent one group to another room they hadn't seen and gave the other a boss battle to tie it all together. Overall a great adventure that I will definitely try to build elements of into my main campaign. Looking forward to exploring more of your work!

Absolutely loved running this as a short notice one-shot when some of my podcast team couldn't make the session. Great fun, made a change for a non life-threatening adventure that actually made my players slow down and think outside the box. The randomness of the rooms makes this ideal for running again, or just as a resource for puzzle rooms!

Is Bryce K on Twitter? Would love to give him a shoutout as our episodes are being published in the podcast (OCD&D).

Love the module, about to run it for my group, but I do have one question. Why is the level 20 fighter named Testicles?

Pronounce it like a latin name, Test-ih-clees. I have level 20 characters of great fame and questionable morals with terrible names in all my campaigns. Also, go look up Doraleas and Associates on youtube, I unapologetically borrow fun ideas from everywhere.

Great adventure, and I'm super excited to run it. Quick question, though: How would you deal with characters who have spells such as Fly or Detect Magic? On one hand, I don't want a caster to be able to breeze through several rooms, but on the other I don't want to significantly nerf the player by taking away their hard earned gimmicks. Any suggestions? Reading through it doesn't seem too bad to just say "No Magic above a Cantrip", and each room is outfitted with a Counterspell hex or something

Hope I'm not getting to you too late! I wouldn't worry too much, they're spending resources and problem solving, I'd let it happen at least once. If you're worried a bit about it, just give them a room where that wouldn't help instead of whatever one they should go into.

I just tried to download and the map appears to be just a picture of gears? I'm new to the site, so I'm not sure If I did something wrong, but any help would be appreciated.

The gears are supposed to be there, they are one of the puzzles. The map is on another page, though it is more of a flowchart than a map because I don't art well!

I used this as a 'lair' for an ancient copper dragon (level 8 party, so fighting was out of the question). I threw out the setup and the final challenge and just used all the rooms in the middle, and it went great! The entrance was a trapped stairwell that teleported you to one of the starting rooms and the 'loser's room' was a dip in an icy cold river and I could just see this ancient dragon just laughing his butt off as the silly little adventurers stumbled through his puzzle and joke rooms and landed in the river 70 miles away if they lost a challenge. 10/10, easy to adapt and fun to play.

I haven't been able to try it out yet because I have to translate it for my players first.
But just reading through it was fun.
I'm really looking forward to the faces of my players when they get stuck for the first time.

Have you ever thought about releasing versions in other languages?

I only speak English and Chinese myself, and DnD is not published in Chinese yet as far as I know, so not sure if there's any market for that. If you (or anyone else reading this) wants to do so, I'd be happy to edit the file to let readers know that other people have done translations of the thing!

What level is this designed for? I know you wrote it can be adjusted, but I'd like to know what level is ok to play it RAW.

I originally wrote it for 5 PCs of level 7ish, so the rewards and challenges are in that range.

Hi! I’m going to play this as a one-shot with three level 1 players who all have never played D&D. I’ve also never played/dm’ed before. The DCs seem a bit too high for them and the rewards are a bit much. Could anyone please give advice on how high to make the DCs and what to give as rewards?

Hey, probably a bit late for a reply, sorry about that, maybe this comment can help future folks! I would drop the DCs to probably 10 (8 if you want to be generous since you want them to get through this) for the first room, and increase by 1 in each successive room. Similarly, you could just start the rewards after the third level of rooms, using the rewards from the first rooms and moving up from there.

Hope your run through it was enjoyable (unless I caught you in time, in which case, I hope it will be)!

This was soooo fun to run as a dm. My players had so much fun, we were living so hard there were tears. Definitely an awesome session and a break from the norm. Give this one a shot.

I just ran this as a one shot with my friends for an impromptu session, all of them veteran players except for one first timer. It was super easy to DM for and everyone had a blast playing. Some moments made the party laugh so hard we had to take a break! I also loved the hockey reference :)

I loved DMing this adventure. It wasn't too long but it was long enough and my players liked it a lot. It was also a great way to introduce the main villain of another campaign so they have a history with him.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
