The lords of Scornubel, the City of Caravans, are hosting a great tournament to celebrate the wedding of a legendary but aging human knight. Events include a joust, a grand melee, and contests of archery, spellcasting, horse racing, poetry, and pie eating. The tournament's wealthy sponsors have offered unique magic items as prizes. Rumors abound that the bridegroom will retire from the prestigious order of the Companions, and many are the knights and sellswords who covet his position. Some of them are likely to resort to underhanded tactics to set themselves above the competition. And in the middle of it all, mysterious conspirators plan a strange murder...

That's weird. Trying it myself by opening the document in a browser and then in a pdf reader, the boxed text isn't selectable but the unboxed text is. I'm not sure what your setup is, but would screenshots of the boxed text work for you? My laptop with the original document was lost in an accident, so it won't be easy for me to email the plain text to you.

Hi,

Planning in running this tomorrow, so just a quick question. The spell casting event. The number of spells that are deducted from the NPC, are these the ones that they used for the dummy, or just the spells they have left when they meet the PC? My players are at level four so the might be a bit short on slots in the last skirmish if they make it that far.

The deducted spell slots are meant to represent spells that were used on the dummy, spells that were used on previous rounds, and in some cases spells that they might have been forced to use earlier that day (For example, Myra Howdahcobbler having to cast Feather Fall in case her saddle falls apart in the horse race.) Feel free to deduct more or fewer spell sots to make a more appropriate challenge.

*SPOILERS* Ran this for my group of adventurers over the weekend. Was great fun, although what I did not predict; was that rather than alert the authorities to the match fixing or try to save the melée, they won as much cash as possible on the other events, bet all their winnings on Sir Egan to win, made a deal with the dwarves to make sure their plan for Sir Egan to beat Felix went off without a hitch and finished the session swimming in gold!

It's beautiful when a group can take a published adventure and really make it their own.

On page 19, Sir Horace of Cormyr's armor class is listed as 30. Is that correct?

No, that's a typo. It should be 20.

I'm very excited to be running this tomorrow night. Perhaps I'm missing something, but what is the purpose of the Mob statistics included? How are the mobs supposed to be utilized?

Hi Bill, I love this adventure and will soon be running it as part of my HotDQ campaign. In preparation for that campaign I converted the module to a working Fantasy Grounds module (for my own personal use). If you'd like a copy of the FG module let me know.

I just downloaded this and noticed something that I would like clarified. It says "NPCs that pass the elimination round" are listed below. Is it supposed to say the qualifying rounds? What if I roll bad for the NPCs during the elimination rounds? Some help would be appreciated.

Yes, that was a typo. The intent is to avoid having to stat out dozens of NPCs for the first half of the game. Roll normally for the NPCs during the second half, and eliminate them if they roll badly.

Oh, yeah, I'd forgotten that Scornubel is one of several cities that HotDQ passes through without giving the players much of anything to do while they're there. I should include that in the list of alternative hooks.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
