I've converted the DMs Guild Adventure template to a template file for Pages 8 for the Mac.

You will need to download and install the three fonts used in the official template: /product/170830/DMs-Guild-Creator-Resource--Adventure-Template

Update 20 Feb 2016

  • I've updated the basic template to improve some of the formatting.
  • I've added a new revised template that replaces the Junction font with Avenir. Junction is lacking italic and bold-italic styles which are needed if you want to replicate the stat block formatting from the Monster Manual.
  • I've also added a version of the revised template with a parchment background.

Update 14 Apr 2019

  • Updated to Pages 8.
  • New filenames end in 2.0.

Update 16 Nov 2019

  • Minor revisions for latest verison of Pages.
  • New filenames end in 2.1.

Note: The fonts used in the template are not available in iOS. So while documents created with this file can be opened/edited in Pages for the iPhone/iPad the fonts will be replaced. It is recommended for use on the Mac version of Pages rather than on iOS devices. If you're looking for a file to edit on both the Mac and iOS, download the Adventure Template for iOS.

Avenir appears to need a license for commercial use. Do you have another recommendation for the Junction replacement font?

Any sans serif font should be fine really. Try Arial or Helvetica.

I keep running into an issue where breaking into a new section and the Chapter Heading in the new section doesn't extend across the entire page. Is there something I'm missing?

There is a layout break after the chapter title - it's like a special kind of column break. I'm not exactly sure how to add one, unfortunately. If you go to View->Show Invisibles you can see the formatting marks. Then you can select the layout break and cut and paste it into the new section after the chapter title, so that the title breaks across both coulmns.

Also make sure the chapter heading only has 1 column...

I'm stuck on an older version of Pages. Any chance I can get a copy of an older version of the templates?

Sorry, I don't have access to older versions, and I do not see a way to save a document from the current version as a legacy file.

I keep getting an error saying “DMs_Guild_Template_-_Revised.template” couldn’t be opened. The required index.xml file is missing. I installed the fonts, but maybe I need to do something to install the template?

I'm not sure why that would be happening. Try the 2.0 version. When you open it, you should get an option of starting a new file or adding the template to your template chooser. Sorry for the issues.

Thank you a million times! I tried to get the default Word template working with Word for Mac for about 3 hours this afternoon and almost threw my iMac out of the window. This Pages native version has lowered my blood pressure considerably :-)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
