Suggested Price $4.99

Artificers are the quintessential crafters and engineers of wonders in a world of magic. They channel arcane forces into their works, conjuring impossible dreams of creation into reality.

This product contains the following:

• The Artificer class, a full class design from levels 1 to 20.

• Archetypes include:

The Battleforge Smith: A skilled craftsman that dons a powerful suit of rune-enhanced armor with customized capabilities.

The Eldritch Alchemist: A seeker of alchemical secrets with expertise in transmutative arts.

The Magic Shotslinger: A ranged weapon specialist that trains to take down foes with magic ammunition.

The Runic Golemancer: An aspiring inventor accompanied by a powerful golem companion.

• 44 new feats, some of which are specially designed for the artificer

• A section on Rune Golems, a new type of companion pet that is a feature of the Runic Golemancer.

• 82 new magic spells, several of which are specially designed for the artificer.

• A section on Artificer Gadgets - adaptable device parts that can transform into tools for the artificer.

• An Equipment section containing subsections of firearms, various magical and nonmagical potions, runic inscriptions, alchemical items, and common magic items.

AUTHOR'S NOTE (2/7/2017): The old product page became bugged, and I felt that with the latest update changing so much, I might as well try a fresh start. I've also uploaded the old files, marked "old" for anyone who wants to compare the differences. The update log is at the end of the book.

Can the results of the Alchemical Transmutation cantrip be used as material for something like a Fabricate spell?
I know a lot of transmutation spells state it can't be used as a material, but this one seems... almost designed for that sort of thing.

Yeah, that should be the case. If I ever get to version 1.5, I'll be updating the cantrip, changing the duration to Instantaneous since Dispel Magic shouldn't undo the change to material.

I have a question about the Battleforge Smith Vocational feats.

I have compared all of the Vocational feats against their Artificer Vocations (paths/archetypes). While split up, each Vocational Feat set (Versatility, Advancement, Graduation, Mastery, Grandmastery) equals the Artificer Vocation of the same archetype except Battleforge Smith.

The Battleforge Smith, through Vocational feats, is missing the actual ability to properly use his or her Medium/Heavy Rune Armor (the Armor Proficiency ability is not included with any related Vocational feat).

Is this omission of the Armor Proficiency accidental, intentional, or implied to be gained by having the Rune Armor Feature?

Accidental. I'll be fixing that in the next update by granting medium armor proficiency in Vocational Versatility (Battleforge Smith), and heavy armor proficiency in Vocational Advancement (Battleforge Smith).

Thank you for the catch.

The Artificer has been updated to v1.4 - the next update (v1.5) will probably focus around expanding options and possibly reworking the rune golem in some way.

● UPDATE NOTES v1.4 ●

Updated Table of Contents to include Update Log.

Section 1 - Class Information:
Revised the artificer’s Spellcasting feature - the artificer now applies runic inscriptions on their own body to gain access to magic. Their spells are now prepared, but they can only change one spell by the end of a long rest due to the difficult and tedious nature of runic inscription and the body’s need to be in its most stable state of magical flow. The requirement of a touch spell has been removed. A new touch cantrip (Analyze Flow) has been added as a default cantrip for all artificers.
To re-balance the artificer from 1st level and up, the number of Spells Prepared (previously Spells Known) has been slightly reduced.
Revised the artificer’s Magical Infusion feature - Instead of applying...See more

Proofreading Comment: Infusion Brute, prerequisite - Runic Golemancer; shouldn't this be Battleforge Smith

Feat: "Medical Infusion" - will this work with the "Repair Construct" spell (its medical, for your Golem ...)?

Feat: "Teacher's Pet" - can a functional Rune Golem do repairs to or assist in repairing itself (given Smith's and Tinker's tool proficiencies) as well as body modifications (with the Artificer's permission of course and appropriate downtime)?

Can Rune Golems be the target of buffing spells (protections (AC, hardness, other), (construct/object) hit point boosters (since curing/similar spells no longer work), increased speed, resistances, advantages, etc.) like other characters/creatures when cast by its creator/allies or are "Repair Construct" and "Repair Object" the only helpful spells that can be used on a Rune Golem?
Other than standard immunities, it seems the Rune Golem...See more

Note that the Spell Slot Battery is similar to creating a magic item: spell slots are expended at the time of infusion by the Artificer but regained on the next appropriate rest period afterwards, there is no "item destroyed" D20 roll after the last charge is used (its built for this), and it does not regain charges on its own.

Items can not but used to as a source of charges ... unless the Artificer has a way of draining items of their charges to replenish his/her own class slots [I think I once read of a creature that had the ability to replenish its spell slots by draining items of their charges, so if one became an Artificer ...].

Sorry for the late reply. A lot of things happened. I'm working on the Artificer v1.4 right now though, and lots of things are going to get tweaked or fixed.

Thanks for the catch on Infusion Brute - will be fixed in v1.4

If it's in humanoid form, the rune golem should be able to assist in (at minor) repairs, granting advantage to the artificer's checks if necessary.

Since the rune golem is a creature, spells that affect creatures, unless it states in the spell text that constructs are not affected by the spell, will in most cases affect the golem, including buff spells.

I'm unfamiliar with Colyer's Engineer class so I'm not sure if any advice I give about it should be followed. If the devices can normally only be used by the Engineer, then the rune golem probably can't use them unless one homebrews a feat for it. If the Engineer's devices can be used by other creatures, then the rune golem could probably use them (at least with a humanoid body type).

Spell Storage scrolls: if I am reading the description correctly, these are like film negatives - the user shines a light (uses the appropriate spell slot or higher) and the positive image (fully realized spell) is revealed, boosted affects are related to the brightness of the light (slot level, spellcasting stat). My question is- does this allow for cross class casting of spells: a wizard prepares a Magic Missile Spell Storage Scroll; a Druid, after an Arcana check or otherwise finds out what the encoded spell is, uses a 5th level slot to release the spell (with appropriate boosted effects)?

Storage Scroll: This seems to be the perfect item(s) for spellcasters in the field since Strength usually isn't the highest stat for them. Non-magical tools, equipment of various types, supplies, treasure, etc. can be carried and used as needed so long as they are broken up into lots inside an appropriate container within the weight limit (bags would give the most weight storage where heavy chests would reduce...See more

After watching Naruto - I thought it seemed natural to have storage scrolls in a magical world. After watching Bleach and seeing how important the simple act of storing something is for a magical researcher, it seemed like the sort of thing that magical researchers would inevitably come up with.

I'll write in the next update (working on it next week along with deity lore pamphlet updates and spelljamming test prototype) that a container being stored is fine. A wizard or artificer would have invented it originally to help store their research or crafting materials. It's also a less messy way to carry one's lunch box on the road.

The storage scroll is a multi-use item. I'll also note that for the reader in the update.

One can certainly try to store their own body, but without additional measures to ensure that the extradimensional space's environment is safe for living creatures, it might be a one-way trip.

So the glyph storage method is compatible with other extra-dimensional storage methods (bags, holes, and backpacks) and won't cause an temporary Astral Gate (if you put a storage scroll in a bag of holding: is it ok (like taking extradimensional items in to a Rope Trick) or go boom and suck you into an Astral gate)?

Also, what about the Spell Storage Scroll (I was asking about the 2 different storage items mentioned in the orginal post)?

Is it possible for spellcasters from other classes to use a Spell Storage Scroll prepared by another class by simply supplying the appropriate missing energy (spell slot) after making an Intelligence(Arcana) check (wizard releasing a 5th level slot to use a clerical Spell Storage Scroll with Cure Wounds in/on it)?

Bag of Holding states that anything similar placed in it would destroy both and punch a hole to the Astral Plane, so there would still be that problem.

I'm going to add something similar to the text of the storage scroll if someone tries to store an extradimensional storage device into the storage scroll.

The Spell Shaping scroll (it's not really storage, but something like a lens filter for magical energy) doesn't discriminate by class except for the need to spend an appropriate spell slot for its use.

The Storage Scroll:

It's description says a single item of 100lbs or less. If it is used on a box, bag or other container, does it also store the contents of said container?, Or do th e contents fall to the ground as the container only is absorbed into the scroll?

Is the intention behind the Golem Mode Commands to be some basic level autonomy for the Golem when separate from the Artificer? Because in combat, it seems a bit redundant if you can tell it to move without need for spend an action but Mode commands require an action.

There are situations when the Artificer can become unable to take actions, or is unable to give commands, or the golem companion can't hear the Artificer. In these cases, having taught the golem companion modes of action is useful.

And something that confuses me: The artificer eventually gets a limit of 12 Gadget Points, however the Gadget Bag can hold up to 10. How does one carry the extra two Points? Would I have to be using at least two Points so I could have an extra 10 in the Bag, such as in the form of a Short Sword? And if so, then for a spell like Orbital Destruction Array, would I be capable of transforming the Short Sword into Points in a single action to be used for the 12 potential Points I can use for the spell?

The spare parts are in addition to your active parts. They're basically extras in case your Gadget is somehow lost or destroyed. Basically, your ability to compress and store the size of parts improves with efficiency as you level up. 12 active parts and 10 spare unactivated parts (in case of emergency) in the Bag by level 13.

You can break down a currently constructed Gadget with a bonus action so that you have enough parts for something bigger.

In the next update I'm going to make returning the parts to the Bag doable on the same bonus action as dismantling a Gadget.

I'm going to make a few fixes (particularly to cantrips) in the next update, and adding more than a dozen new spells. I'm also considering some big changes to the Golemancer archetype, to make it more multiclass friendly (my experience working on the multiclass feats book has given me improved insight on class balance).

After I finish up the Realmspace preview edition and Amaunator/Lathander deity lore pamphlet over the next two weeks of allotted design time, I'm going to focus the week after on updates to existing products.

I love the class so far! I just have one question for the golemancer: how is AC calculated if armor is added to the golem? It says use 11+Dex for base AC before adding the armor bonus. Does that mean that putting leather armor on my golem would give it 11+Dex+11 = 22+Dex AC?

No, since leather armor is 11 + Dex, it would still be 11 + Dex.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
