Totemist [Class]

Want to summon large wooden statues which emit powerful magical effects?

A medicine man sits calmly as a group of invaders harass his village. He is peaceful, unaffected. The invaders approach him and shake him, demanding tribute to their greatness. The medicine man stands calmly, as a huge wooden statue begins to move. Before the invaders can understand what has happened, the statue has begun to pummel them. The invaders try to fight back, but their weapons seem to have no effect against the golem. They flee the village, leaving the medicine man to begin healing the others...

Warning! This is not a conversion of the Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 edition class of the same name! This is a totally original work.

Introducing the totemist, a new class that summons powerful totem idols to help their allies and hinder their foes. A totemist is one who seeks balance with nature, and harmony with others, and will use the power of their totems to stop those who would disrupt the natural order.

Each totemist answers a call, a primal feeling that urges them towards greatness. You may answer the call of the Animator, summoning your totems to life to fight alongside you. Perhaps you'll choose the call of the Protector, boosting your battle prowess. Or you may choose the call of the Seer, adding spellcasting to your already-impressive magical ability. Whatever you choose, your ancestors and your people will view you as a protector and leader, and no evildoer can stand in your path!

Happy gaming!

I enjoy this class and I think that it certainly fills an underserved niche in D&D in terms of area of effects and battlefield manipulation. The cover art in particular really stood out. With that in mind I do have a few notes...

1. The cover picture is so good that the lack of interior art throughout the rest of the document really stands out. I know that illustration is a time consuming artform but being able to see what the totems would look like would really go a long way toward fleshing out the class in the heads of the players.

2. The Chant feature at level two feels a lot like what game designers would call a "ribbon", meaning that it's a feature that's more flavor to anchor the class's theme then an important part of the class. Having something that instead allows the player to buff or alter the totem might be a solid idea, especially so early in the level progression. Maybe have a collection of small buffs that the player can pick at the same level progression as...See more

There is a slight error under Soul's Calling. It says you gain your first subclass feature at 2nd level when it should say 3rd. Otherwise, this class is quite interesting, mechanically sound, and fresh.

I believe the pdf is missing its images. At least here I have a lot of black stains where the images are supposed to be.

does this mean temporary hit points?

Yes, it's temporary hit points. It's important to note that temporary hit points do not stack, but can refresh each turn.

Thanks for checking it out!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
